From spooning with Lane Kiffin to Tim Brewster?
His extensive biography is already up on Wiki

He developed San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates from an undrafted free agent into an All-Pro.
His son's names are Clint, Nolan, and Eric

Ba-da, that's all folks.

Patterson isn't interested in the U

Word in national coaching circles is that Texas Christian University's Gary Patterson has withdrawn from consideration for the University of Minnesota's head football coaching job.
A high-ranking Minnesota administrator would not confirm or deny Patterson's status. The Pioneer Press revealed last week that Patterson had colleagues checking into the Gophers job after he was approached by Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Charlie Strong, the defensive coordinator for national champion Florida, which shut down Ohio State 41-14 in the title game, was said to be on campus for a second interview for the Gophers job. Strong has been on Minnesota's short list.
A rumor elsewhere Monday that Denver Broncos tight ends coach Tim Brewster,?who recruited Vince Young to Texas, had accepted a Gophers head coaching offer isn't accurate, people who would know said.

The AP now says it is Brewster.

Broncos' Brewster to coach U. of Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS - Denver Broncos assistant Tim Brewster has been chosen as the new head coach at the University of Minnesota, associate athletic director Tom Wistrcill said Tuesday.

"That is correct," Wistrcill said. "He is the guy."
Brewster, the Broncos' tight ends coach, replaces Glen Mason, who was fired Dec. 31.

Tim Brewster was a great recruiter at Texas. Without him, we wouldn't have gotten either Simms or VY.

If he has success at Minnesota, he could be on the short list of coaches to succeed Mack Brown. I think it's a good hire for Minn. Hope he can get a good DC.

Tice really likes coaching Minnesota teams. He didnt have that much success with the Vikings. If that rumor is true, I dont think Tice would be a great fit for the Gophers, since he is an offensive specialist when the Gophers defense is what they need help in.

Does Tice realize that he couldn't get into a ticket selling scandal in college and get away with it?

Selling Gopher football

By Jon Krawczynski, Associated Press
Published Wednesday, January 17, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS ? Tim Brewster spent 13 years learning the tricks of the recruiting trade under guru Mack Brown. Six years after leaving Brown for the NFL, Brewster will finally be able to put that knowledge to work in his first head coaching job.

Gary Patterson remains TCU's football coach, but Minnesota officials made a serious push over the weekend to make him the head of the Gophers' program. Sources told the Star-Telegram that the Horned Frogs coach was offered a salary worth more than $2 million to leave Fort Worth. He turned down the offer Sunday.

Don't be surprised if Clint Brewster, a son of new Gophers football coach Tim Brewster, ends up at Minnesota. Clint is a senior quarterback who has committed to Illinois, his dad's alma mater. If Clint switches recruiting commitments to Minnesota, it will be interesting what ripple effects it could have on returning Gophers quarterback Adam Weber, projected as a sophomore starter next season, and junior QB Tony Mortensen.
-- St. Paul Pioneer Press

Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi talked about having an advisory committee that would interview candidates for the head football coaching position. It was scheduled for Tuesday night. But the Gophers announced the hiring of Tim Brewster in the morning. Assistant AD Leo Lewis spent the afternoon trying to contact committee members to tell them they wouldn't get a chance to meet the finalists for the coaching job.

It will be interesting to see who fills out Brewster's staff, and where their recruiting connections are. Have to think that Brewster's closest ties are in Texas, North Carolina, and maybe Illinois (he's an Illini grad). I'm just curious to see if Minny will continue to hit Ohio. I'll bet that Dantonio is smiling right now (doesn't have to buck heads with Mason for certain kids).
