"This guy sucks but we sure can shuttle him back and forth between here and Columbus a lot!"
Yes, he’s 15/265 from the plate with one homer that went off Jose Cansecos (now smaller) head, and he has committed 27 errors in 36 innings, but he is UNDER TEAM CONTROL UNTIL 2028!!!!11!1!1!1!1eleventy-bull-durham11!1!

Oh yea. I'm sure also there will be a lot of talk about how good it was to get "2 MLB level players!" for Lindor/Carrassco

Completely ignoring that said 2 players make a already bad offense even worse.

I’d have preferred a trade that netted an actual somewhat proven plug and play outfielder like Clint Frazier.

I know we had no leverage but surprised the Yanks didn’t offer something better then the oily lawn sausage The Mets delivered us.

The Indians 26 man roster right now stands at $22,950,000

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/

This is dead last, and about $20 million behind Baltimore which is one spot ahead of us.

That also means that in 2021, 23 players will make more than what the Indians have for a team right now, including legends such as Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, etc. - BUT, the good news, we pay $450,000 to have this team instead of just Wil Myers. So that's a bright side. Maybe.

I’d be shocked if that number grows very much. Dolan is probably notching it up to recouping some of the losses he took during the shortened COVID season.

I agree, the number def won't budge much. This is the team we have. 0 free agents signed. An anemic offense last year that has lost Lindor, Santana, Hernandez and somehow we are supposed to watch this team? I was frustrated enough watching great pitching go to waste, how are we going to feel this year?!

When John Sherman left ownership for KC, he took the only money that was being spent on talent. Dolan looks nearly certain to sell by 2023, and is likely just 'getting lean' to make things look as attractive as possible for potential buyers.

Career slash line of that projected lineup

Oscar Mercardo .246/.295/.399 (a leadoff man with a .295 career OBP is brilliant!)
Ahmed Rosario .268/.302/.403
Jose Ramirez - .281/.354/.494
Franmil Reyes .263/.326/.495 (when hes on hes on but when hes not hes pretty brutal)
Josh Naylor .249/.309/.383
Bobby Bradley .178/.245/.356 (only 45 ABs. Known for terrible plate discipline in the minors though)
Roberto Perez .212/.302/.364
Andres Giminez .263/.333/.398 (only 118 AB in the 2020 short season. Highest minor level was AA where he was not good offensively)
Daniel Johnson - Only 13 MLB ABs. Has been a capable minor league hitter (.284/.344/.460) but we will see what he does in the big show.

A very nice combo of not being able to get on base mixed with little power. Winning formula.
Very Reds-like.

Speaking of LaPorta lets not forget how monumental of a train wreck that trade would had been if they didn't luck out in getting Brantley as the PTBNL.

But that's not lucking out. They do it over and over.

Here's the problem... (other than again, not having an owner that will deficit spend)

Yeah, the team control is nearly the only thing that matters... and not just because of $ (Carrasco had team control under a post arbitration contract)

Having valuable guys leave in Free Agency gets you nothing (well occasionally a draft pick - and I guess the younger minor leaguer here is essentially that since I doubt he got to play last year) so even back to the Carlos Baerga thing, the value isn't just the production, its who did these guys end up getting you.... ultimately the end up being someone that stops playing for whatever reason. That's why you have to get multiples, you can't afford one developmental guy. Going back to the Alomar deal, I think Bully Traber was supposed to be the good one coming out of that.... but that's why you had Jake Westbrook thrown into the David Justice deal.

There's no reason to be happy about any of this other than to say that I'm glad you guys aren't actually running the Indians

I get that you want to win all the games now, but that doesn't work even in Boston or NY, they just get bigger windows.

The problem is it’s not about winning now at least get the pieces to win in the future. Which IMO they failed to do in this trade. The 2 “MLB level” infielders are meh at best and the 2 prospects both seem like long shots to ever be impact players in the big leagues.

It’s nice to have players under control but if those players are mediocre it’s doing little good.....lol

I heard the ballpark contract only runs through 2023. If they can suck bad enough that no fans come, they can use it to leverage a new park or cheaper deal on Progressive Field. Most likely that is what Dolan will use the "lack of fan support" for his benefit with.

I don't even really want to acknowledge that Cleveland got players back from the Mets, because it was truly a salary dump trade. But from what I have read, Giminez sounds exactly like the type of player Tito loves. Defense and speed. Too bad they got nobody who can hit anymore to drive him in when he reaches.

Nothing like a new park for a team that fan interest has totally been killed
