If the Indians take the minor league outfielder that the Pirates are supposedly offering, I will be a very unhappy camper. With all the money they get from the Sizemore and Hafner contracts, I would hope that they would rebuild the outfield for next season if they trade Choo.

Marte is a pretty highly rated prospect...I think the deal wouldn't be terrible, considering they will only have Choo for one more year anyway. There is some thought they could get more for him in the offseason, but teams won't be desperate for a bat then like they are now for a final push.

We have/had too many highly rated prospects that have not panned out:biggrin2: Can anyone say Laporta that I will stop there. Marte has not proven to be a major-league hitter. Still a prospect and has not hit that well since being brought up to Pittsburgh. I guess I would like a proven player for a proven player but I also know that when you're selling other teams know that.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in some of our starting pitchers:tongue2:

Anyway, lotta smoke around Masterson also being on the block. Apparently Tribe management & Masterson's team are pretty far apart on an extension, so really wouldn't be shocked to see him go either. Given the disaster he's been this season, I wouldn't want to give him too much money. I wish to God somebody would take Ubaldo-O off our hands, but I don't see that happening. Still, could be a full-on fire sale in the next 30 hours or so...

Meanwhile, looks like it's time to pull the plug on this year's team. What does anyone think of the current trade value/trade chances of any of these guys:

Jack Hannahan: Age 32, $1.14M '12 salary, Eligible for arbitration '13 and free agent '15

Jose Lopez: Age 28, $800K '12 salary, free agent '13

Casey Kotchman: Age 29, $3M '12 salary, free agent '13

Johnny Damon: Age 38, $1.25M '12 salary, free agent '13

Shelly Duncan: Age 32, $500K '12 salary, Eligible for arbitration '13 and free agent '16

Lou Marson: Age 26, $492K '12 salary, Eligible for arbitration '13 and free agent '15

Joe Smith: Age 28, $1.75M '12 salary, Eligible for arbitration '13 and free agent '14


As a bench player on the right contender, most of these guys could help down the stretch run. With the Tribe most likely starting another rebuild, it seems quite possible that they will not want to deal with free agency or arbitration for all of these guys.....

Let's see, Hannahan is worth a rack of bats, Duncan a couple of boxes of AL baseballs, Krotchrot is good for some Valtrex...

Seriously though, other than maybe Lopez, the best we could hope for is maybe an Austin Kearns to the Yankees kind of deal...a low (as in very low) risk trade that could pan out, or produce nothing, but either way, we don't care.

The Austin Kearns deal got the Tribe Zack McAllister, their most consistent starter over the past 6 weeks (not that that's such a high bar :(). I would take that quality of player for any one, two or three of those guys!

RIght, that turned out to be a great trade, because the Yankees got a less than worthless temp rental while we closed a big hole in the OF and got a good young starter. We could make 5 separate trades of those guys and I would expect to only strike a McAllister once and a servicable utility man (oh wait, we have Air Lillebridge) once more, but even 1 or 2 guys that are young and could help are better than any 5 of those, save maybe Lopez or Joe Smith. The only guy on that list I like keeping and really want to keep is Marson, based on the need for 2 catchers and his salary and years. Other than that, fire away.
