Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Which says A LOT about the state of this lineup right now. Maybe a change of scenery will help him out, but in reality, his numbers aren't much different from the turd Sizemore morphed into over the last 2-3 years: .230-ish avg, 17-20 HR, .720-ish OPS, and a bunch of strikeouts. Though, he's probably a defensive upgrade from the three ring circus trotting out there these days.

In the short-term, he may be a bit of an upgrade, but if he is the player he's showing right now, I'd prefer they just pass unless the price is just too good to pass up.

the only plus is that he's hitting about .286 away from the Trop this year, plus he'd be under control for 2012. So, they'd be paying him far less than picking up sizemore's option, and upton will likely actually play an entire season instead of parking himself on the DL for 3+ months.

That's true, his road splits are much better and the Jake is a much friendlier park than that dump down in Tampa. I worry more about his attitude than his abilities.

As for Sizemore, I'm wondering what the plan is there. He's not going to make any money with his injury history and performance over the past few years. I wonder if he'll be back on some low guarentee/incentive-laden contract next year...

he's got a team option for over $8 million. if cleveland doesn't pick it up and makes him a total FA, I can't see him resigning with the club for a bargain deal, when some big market team will take a flier on him for more cash

Do you really think anybody will offer him much, though? He hasn't been healthy since 2008 and has played mostly like shit when "healthy". I guess it just depends on what the market is and what the tribe would be willing to pay...which I cannot imagine being much.

offer him much in general, or compared to what cleveland would pay?

I'd think any offer from Cleveland, like I said, would be pretty low and incentive-laden. What others would be willing to offer, I really have no idea, but I can't imagine it being much. All speculation obviously, but I guess it would depend on whether he'd be more apt to take a lower guarenteed contract or an incentive-based deal that could end up better money-wise.

Can someone please explain to me why Brantley does not lead off and have Zeke bat second. That way Zeke does not have bunt for a base hit every time up but could sacrifice and maybe cause some havoc that way plus Brantley gets on base every once in a while.

Vinny Vinny Vinny:tongue2:

Latest rumors floating around on Upton are that 5 teams are still in pursuit and the Tribe is not one of them. Apparently, they're asking premium prospects. We'll see if that comes down before the deadline.

Also seeing they're showing interest in the Dodgers' Hiroki Kuroda to sure up the rotation.

Doesn't he blow his arm out every time he takes a piss? He's 36 and I don't know how much he has left in the tank as a 200 innings guy, or even a 150 innings guy, after this year. Not a fan of that move.

As for Upton, there is no reason to part with prime anything for a guy who will hit .226 with 8-10 homers the rest of the way.

I'm not overly familiar with him, but he's had solid numbers in his 4 years. Looks like he's missed a couple starts each year, though.

His road splits are much, much better than what he's done in that cavernous dump the Rays play in, so he'd likely do a good bit better at the Jake. But yeah, no reason to give up a whole lot for him, really. Supposedly, and not surprisingly, the guys most teams are interested in talking to the Tribe are Chis, Kipnis, Pomeranz, and White. I read somewhere though, can't remember where exactly, that the FO isn't looking to mortgage big pieces of the future just for a boost this season, so that's encouraging.

one reason you go after upton is because you would still have him next year at CF and he is still only 26...he has the tools to be a all star every year the rest of his career but his attitude is one big reason i wouldnt mind seeing the indians pass on him...colby rasmus might be another OF to look at...it looks like the indians will make a trade but i doubt we get kuroda...he has a no trade clause and just said he would rescind it if traded to the yankees or red sox...so scratch him from our plans
