Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

I don't mind the lineup tonight. If only Grady would actually be comfortable hitting anywhere but leadoff. As good as it gets for now though.

This where I'm glad we have Hafner back: with men in scoring position. We need him to be clutch with Brantley and ACab getting on base.

Aside from a blistering start to his season, Grady has been pretty awful, for the most part. It really looks like his days as a consistently productive player are gone. Still striking out an obscene amount, but doesn't have the 30-30 ability or walk as much, or the respectable BA.

Since coming back from his last trip to the DL Grady has not looked comfortable hitting anywhere. I don't think the batting order is the issue. Thought maybe it was still a sore knee, but he seemed able to turn on the afterburns and run down a ball at the wall in deep left center last night.

Nice to see the Erie Warriors at least temporarily get off the shitter...we'll see if we can wipe the log clean tomorrow for the sweep...would be nice to build some momentum for the next 5 series, all of which pose serious challenges.

Players were not very happy. There are some quotes at the end of the article. Go to http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2011/06/cleveland_indians_fire_hitting.html
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians have fired hitting coach Jon Nunnally in the wake of a four-week collapse by the offense.

Bruce Fields, the Indians minor league hitting coordinator since 2007, has replaced him.

Nunnally, a former Indians draft pick, was in his second year on the job.
The Indians announced the firing Sunday morning, but Nunnally was informed Saturday afternoon that he had been jettisoned. He was not on the bench Saturday night as the Tribe won, 5-1.

Indians manager Manny Acta and bench coach Tim Tolman handled the hitting coach duties Saturday night and will do so again today. Fields is expected to join the team in time for Monday night's game against Colorado. He will have the job on an interim basis until the end of the season, at which point he will be evaluated.

"We've been scuffling for a while, and we felt like we need a new voice,'' Acta said. "Jon's a great person and worked very hard. Certiainly coaches coach and players play, but we felt like we needed a new voice.

"Bruce Fields has 34 years of experience, he's been a hitting coach in the big leagues, and he's been in our system for a while. Hopefully, he can make us better.''

Holy crap.

Wedge would have just sat back and let the hitting woes continue. Interesting to see some action taken.

Happy Father's Day!
Yeah, I'm surprised. But then, is it really his fault the talent level is as bad as it is? I mean how much you can you expect him to draw out of guys like Hannahan, Kearns, Buck, OCab, et al? Then again, Santana still isn't showing any signs of consistency, LaBusta has failed to develop into anything above a AAAA player, Choo is a mess, and Grady is still regressing (despite last night's showing) under his watch, so maybe he's the fall guy for that...
