Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

The trump card is no team that Love won't sign long term with is going to trade a future star for <1 year. Getting Bennett, Waiters, and a pick or two is more than enough for a year of Love.

For the people saying trade Wiggins where to you get the other 10+ mil to even out the trade?

Well, you just sign Wiggins and that's $5 Million, add in Bennett and Carrick Felix and that gets you there money wise.

Speaking of, why haven't the Cavs signed Wiggins? One thing I haven't found is whether not signing him assigns him a cash value in trades or there is some other advantage to that. The only thing I know is you can't trade him for 30 days after he signs... so why not sign him now to get the clock starter? Just haven't read/heard why there is an advantage to that.

sooner or later we might just need a center.. just sayin

His name is Gorgui Deng...

Haywood would have to be a part of the trade to make it work. No issues there.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

YOU DO NOT TRADE HAYWOOD THIS YEAR!!!! He makes $2 million... you keep his ass as the 3rd center on this team. You trade Haywood NEXT year because that is when he becomes HUGELY valuable as a trade asset. Cuz next summer you can use Haywood as a sign and trade chip or be able to get some other high priced player from some team. Next summer his salary jumps up to $10 million and it isn't guarenteed. So you can trade his $10 million dollar contract to get a player or two and the team that gets him can release him and not pay one cent of his salary and get him off their salary cap.

In essence, he is your big chip to add players on this team next season.

They said this morning they aren't signing him so they can trade his rights immediately and avoid having to wait the 30 days.

Latest rumor around town is Wiggins, Bennett, and a first rounder next year...that is much more like it, though I imagine that's got to be the first time that the first 2 overall picks of the last 2 drafts would be traded at the same time by the same team. Only in Cleveland.

Love is a proven 3x all star.

It would take Wiggins years to develop the experience and awareness that Love already has.
LeBron only has 5/6 great years left. We cant wait 2/3 years for Wiggins to possibly develop into the third all star.

The only way, we get Love and keep Wiggins, is if Love demands to be traded to the Cavs.
That would force the Wolves to take: Waiters / Bennett / 2 first round picks.
No other team would offer that much for a one year rental for Love.

We might get lucky if we drag out the process, Wolves may get desperate and take our best offer (without Wiggins)
But the sooner Love can be added to the team, the better it will be for the Cavs. The team will need time to gel.

Hopefully LeBron is recruiting Love behind the scenes and we end up with Love and Wiggins.

But why not let the #1 pick overall show you what he's got before you overpay?
Because you have limited windows in these situations. Maybe Wiggins will be a great player three or four years down the road. But where will LeBron be at that time?

Players age quickly in the NBA. Look at Dwayne Wade for example. In the 2010-2011 season, at age 29, he was clearly a top-5 player in the NBA, averaging 25.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Last year, at age 32, he averaged 19.0 points (down 6.5), 4.5 rebounds (down 1.9), and 4.7 assists (up 0.1) while missing 28 games due to nagging injuries and general "old age." Is Wade still even a top-25 player? Can he still lead a team to a championship? Doubtful.

LeBron is clearly the best player in the game today. Four years from now? Who knows? Age, wear and tear, injuries, declining desire will all take their toll, as they do on every athlete, no matter how great and dedicated they are.

Right now, Wiggins isn't good enough to help LeBron win a title. Four years from now, LeBron might not be good enough to help Wiggins win a title, even if Wiggins develops into a legit superstar, which is far from given.

LeBron + Kyrie + Love makes the Cavs serious title contenders now and for the next four to six years.

I'd rather let this team grow with Wiggins so that they're ready to win by the team the Western powerhouses aren't as good.
And when is that going to be?

Do you honestly believe we'd be San Antonio with no depth and little to no defense?
San Antonio is a great team with very old superstars. Their run is just about over. I definitely think that a Cavs team with the Big Three would have a very good chance of beating the Spurs in a seven-game series, or any other team for that matter.

Your "no depth" comment is not justified. You need eight or nine contributors in the NBA. If the Cavs traded Wiggins and Bennett and picks for Love, they would have Kyrie, Waiters, LeBron, Love, and Varejao as the starting five, with Thompson and Mike Miller as the key reserves. They would also have minor pieces like Dellavedova and James Jones. They would need to add a rotational center for sure and probably another guard (Ray Allen?). There is still plenty of time to fill out the roster.

As far as the "no defense" comment, can I put you in the category of Cavs fans who were depressed to see Mike Brown get fired?

Before the proposed Wiggins-for-Love trade, I had never heard the "defense wins championships" mantra applied to the NBA. I'm not going to say that defense is totally unimportant, but you still win games by scoring more points than your opponents. And the Cavs with their Big Three would be able to out-score their opponents on most nights.

Yes and not to mention, defense in the NBA is more about effort than anything else.
Kyrie and Kevin will undoubtedly give more effort playing defense for contending team, rather than for a team that doesn't make the playoffs.

Well, as to just this, I was thinking about the Jordan Bulls, and to a large degree, you could say that this was predicated on defense. Then I thought, well, was Rodman there for D or rebounds... so, Love fills one of those rolls I guess (and certainly we could parse that all out). Jordan of course, was an elite Defender... and to me, what you have to weigh is... are Love's pts and rebounds more important than his replacements plus Wiggins perimeter defense, AND, keep in mind if (and I think its safe to say he'll be a pretty good defender) he is, I think the benefit I see is to be able to give him defensive assignments in certain match-ups that limit the wear and tear (or simply game to game intensity) for both Kyrie and LeBron. Early in his career, the book on stopping (slowing down) Jordan was to make him work hard on D (There's a reason the Bulls got Ron Harper later in his career). What's the lift to Kyrie and Lebron to have that guy on their team vs. relying on Love to score. So, what's that net on getting more points then the opponent? (Then of course what you end up with at the 5 makes a big difference there too.)

I don't know that answer. But, I do think there's an opportunity for Wiggins to contribute in important ways now as well.

I do agree with the sentiment to win now, make no mistake but it needs to be the right deal.

The other thing with keeping Wiggins and not getting Love is that leaves you with a lot more fleibility for next year to address needs once we see LeBron and Kyrie play together.

Having said that, straight up Wiggins for Love and you get a 3 or 4 year commitment from Love, you have to do it. (Not saying that's all that would need to happen but, just to distill it to that choice)

Do you want the guy that can be Pippen or do you want Toni Kukoc?

I'm going to stick with Pippen, his ability to guard the others teams best player so Lebron doesn't have to and I will enjoy all of the amazing fast break highlights.

Equating Kevin Love with Toni Kukoc is simply ridiculous. Fifty years of losing has caused Cleveland fans to collectively lose theirs minds.

Well, Broussard is reporting that the Cavs are offering Wigggins, Bennett, and a number one and the T-Wolves are still saying that's not enough. Talk about Griffin getting played like a harp--the T-Wolves probably can't believe their luck with pushing the Cavs' front office around.

All for a guy who will tell Minnesota to pound salt anyway next summer. :smash:

I'm beginning to think that if the T-Wolves asked for LeBron, the Cavs would agree.

If the LeBron melodrama proved anything, it's that the e!spn nba "insiders" have nothing. I believe nothing that comes from any of them. Their credibility is dog shit. I guarantee you I could call Broussard claiming to be connected to the Cavs front office, give him a "tidbit", and he'd run with it.

It wouldn't surprise me if the T-wolves were putting out info to get the Warriors to up their bid and thus force Cleveland to up their bid.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Take a deep breath Cavs fans. You could be in for another long weekend.

ESPN's Chris Broussard is reporting that the Cavaliers and Timberwolves have "discussed a blockbuster trade" for forward Kevin Love centered around this year's top pick in the draft, Andrew Wiggins, and last year's top pick, Anthony Bennett. Additionally, according to Broussard, "One source said the Cavs are also willing to give up a first-round draft pick for next season. Any other players involved in the talks are not known."

I'd like to think that even a Cleveland pro-team front office isn't that stupid...
