Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I bet he could have even started for Penn State. So there's that.

I think the bench thing is a little overrated myself. But there isn't much on this guy because he only played a little over half a game on average. He didn't work out. He didn't interview. What is Chris Grant thinking?

It's clear to me that the worst case scenario came to pass for the Cavs, and they weren't prepared for it. How else can you explain picking a guy who the team did no significant per-draft homework on?

The Cavs are like the guy in the fantasy football draft who tells everybody the plan on taking either Rodgers, Brady or Brees with their first pick. Then when they find themselves on the clock and all their guys are gone they just blurt out the first name that comes to mind and end up with Sebastian Janikowski as their first round pick.

Come on. This would never happen to a cleveland team. They have their shit together. The proof is in the pudding.

I usually stay away from coming on and bitching about Cleveland drafts because I want to see how this all plays out....but I can say with full certainty that this draft fucking sucked...they get a dude that went 2 for 9 against the Buckeyes and was completely shut down by Ohio States gaurds then they get a generic slightly more athletic version of Harangoati but more of a pussy

It's not all bad. Being a pussy can get you a long way in today's NBA.

He went 2 for 8. If he had missed that extra shot, we wouldn't have taken him. But since he didn't work out or interview (THE RED FLAGS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE!), at least we had that to base this pick on.

Pretty sure Jay Bilas just said he liked the Cavs draft. Said he thinks Waiters can be a ROTY contender alongside Kyrie Irving, and says that Zeller runs the floor better than any big man in the draft (aside from Davis, I'm assuming). Said that was a "solid" pickup.

I respect Bilas, he knows his shit and doesn't pick favorites. I didn't think this draft was as bad as you guys were making it sound.. I didn't like giving up all those picks for Zeller either, but I don't think the Waiters pick is end of the world bad like you guys are acting. :p

I'm beginning to think the worst thing about Cleveland sports,.....the fans.

ESPN's mock draft had Waiters going 6th, not as big a reach as some of you guys make it out to be. Twenty pounds heavier than Beal, better field goal %, better 3 point %, scored almost the same number of points playing 10 minutes less a game.

Zeller was ACC player of the year, scored 16.3 per game with 9.6 boards. I wish we gave up one less pick, but every one knew we weren't going to carry 3 or 4 rookies. Just ask my main man NJ.

Cavs go full retard, go figure

3 picks for Tyler Fucking Zeller? get out of here

And all we were talking about heading into the draft was the Cavs weren't bringing in 4 rookies and we were all willing to package 24 and our two 2nd rounders to move up back into the mid-teens of the draft.

So the Cavs actually follow through on that and everyone is pissed? WTF???

I actually like this draft. We are going big or we are back in the high lottery next year. After Davis/MKG/Beal, the rest of the guys to me were blah. Barnes is an 'ok' player who basically you are going to get what you see, no real potential of getting better. Waiters though does have potential to become VERY good.

Plus LOVE the Zeller pick. One reason I would have taken the Portland deal was to take Zeller at #11. Get your legit Center who isn't a total stiff and you can play Andy at the 4 and split time with Tristan Thompson.

1,000% correct... Cleveland fans are getting worse and worse every year. In the NBA 'safe' choices keep you in no mans land... either late lottery or the 6-8 seed in the playoffs. We NEED another stud to go with Irving and Waiters has a better chance of doing that than Barnes.

And like I said with Zeller, he will be an average to above average center in this league and that is enough to win, and to get him for 3 late picks? GOLDEN!

Now all this team needs is a SF and a bench and we are on or way!

I respect Bilas, he knows his [Mark May] and doesn't pick favorites. I didn't think this draft was as bad as you guys were making it sound.. I didn't like giving up all those picks for Zeller either, but I don't think the Waiters pick is end of the world bad like you guys are acting. :p

I respect Bilas as well, but when it comes to the NBA Draft he has nice things to say about everybody. I would HOPE the 4th pick could at least compete for ROY.

There is a reason Waiters' agent didn't let him work out or interview. If everyone thought Austin Rivers was a cocky jerk, then you should listen to Dion Waiters. He didn't start for Syracuse because Jim Boehiem was trying to break him down a little bit because he's not very coachable. He even said at one point that Waiters didn't want to play any defense.

I've never said Waiters didn't have potential. He does. But it's a microwave type player off the bench. I suppose if I'm being really optimistic, he could be like James Harden. But that is if he puts it all together and listens to Byron Scott. Fortunately Scott isn't the type of coach to take shit from anybody.

The other problem is that I question whether they truly considered how he would fit in with Kyrie Irving. Waiters is not a "spot up" guy. He's a scorer and, at times, a creator for spot up guys. So how does that work with a guy (Irving) that has a similar skillset from the PG position. If Lebron and DWade have taught us anything, it's that redundancy on the court is not really a good thing.

I think a lot of people are stretching to convince themselves that this was a good draft because that's what we try to do. People did it with Luke Jackson. People did it with Brady Quiin. I remember trying to do it with Christian Eyenga when we passed on Dejuan Blair. People are now doing it with Brandon Weeden and Dion Waiters. Sometimes you just have to call it like you see it. I hope like hell I am wrong.

i think the fact that guys like bilas, seth davis, and david aldridge all love the cavs draft and the folks here hate it is all the evidence you need that the cavs made the right choices. but, if this board had its way the cavs would be trotting out a lineup of kemba walker, derrick williams, harrison barnes, and whatever big man stiff people loved at 24. then people would want byron scott fired because they can't figure out why the cavs go 32-50 every year and battle the bucks for the #12 pick each draft.
