Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Zach Lowe on the Kyrie situation. Lowe proposes a number of trades. Here are the three I like best:

Cavs-Suns trade: Irving/Shumpert for Bledsoe/Dudley/Jackson. This is the best trade I've seen so far. The Suns may not be willing to include Jackson, but they'd have to. A future pick can't be the biggest draw of the deal, especially if LeBron is leaving next year. If you can get 15ppg from Bledsoe and 10ppg from Jackson, you've replaced Irving's scoring. Kevin Love has to become the secondary option, but I think he's capable, and that idea excites me. It would probably rejuvenate Love as well.

Cavs-Bucks trade: Kyrie for Middleton/Brogdon + picks. This trade, as well as the one above, alter the starting lineup's identity, and I like that a lot. We know we can't outscore Golden State, so it may be time to fundamentally alter the way we play. The starting unit in either of these trades would be good defensively. The bench would still be a group of turnstiles, but that could be good change of pace to put points on the board.

Cavs-Pelicans trade: Kyrie for Boogie. I wouldn't personally make this trade because it's too risky, but this could be a solution to our Golden State problem if it worked out. Unfortunately, I think the Cavs would be more likely to fizzle out in round two than beat Golden State with Boogie. It probably forces them to trade Love or Thompson, too.

I was frustrated with Irving the other day, but if the Cavs can get a haul for him (particularly like the first two above), it may work out for us. I'm excited at the idea of turning this team into a group of scrappy defenders. When the opponent's PG can get to the basket on every possession, you don't have that option.

Is it just me or if this is the offer you take this and don't look back

I would try to get a deal done before the season starts, but there's no reason to rush into anything until then. Hopefully teams continue to try and one-up each other. It's a great offer, though.

I hate the idea of Rose as the starting point guard. He was bad last year. He's a terrible three-point shooter (spot-up or otherwise) and as bad as Kyrie defensively. I'm okay bringing him off the bench for 10 minutes per game, but I wouldn't play him more than 15 minutes per game.

Cleveland doesn't exactly have the leverage here.

Kyrie's under contract for the next 2 years.

Not only that, but, in order to get the supermax, I do believe he has to be first team all NBA, which is going to be a tall order if he's Lebron's second fiddle. So, him tanking if he stays in cleveland only hurts his pocketbook. So really, Cleveland can sit on him for a year and a half if they so choose.
