Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

But this team is built so LeBron doesn't have to do anything during the season anymore. This isn't Miami where he had to handle the ball every possession and then carry Dwayne Wade through the season.

Except play defense... which is what he had to do a lot of solo in Miami as well... that's the biggest concern with trading Wiggins who is considered by most ready to be an above average defender in the NBA....

Only long term will tell but I'm not a fan of this trade.

Sources: Cavs have agreement for Kevin Love, including long-term contract commitment. Wiggins, Bennett, pick to Minn. http://yhoo.it/XHoSQg
But nobody was offering anything close to Cleveland's deal....

But Kevin Love demanded a trade to Cleveland....

But Minnesota was going to lose Kevin Love after this season....

But Minnesota had NO LEVERAGE.....

But, but, but ... what happened?

Ah, that pesky little law of supply and demand reared its ugly head again.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinions, thoughts, beliefs, whatever. But the world really does work a certain way, regardless of how you feel about it. The Cavs were never going to get Kevin Love for "tristan thompson, that rabble of utah outcasts, and a 2nd round pick in 2019" as tsteele316 so ridiculously stated. Why? Because Minnesota had the freaking leverage, and both sides knew it.

Terrible deal for the Cavs.
Great deal for the Cavs. Not good, GREAT. And the Cavs still have a lot of assets left to make other deals. You know, deals to fill out the bench, get a rim protector, etc.

Now the pressure is on in Cleveland. Title(s) or bust.
The pressure is always on in professional sports.

"Title or bust" sounds a hell of a lot better to me than "wait until next year."

I hate those kind of expectations.
So, you'd rather be mediocre?

Would rather have gone into the season with Lebron and the young guys trying to overachieve.
Yep, that's a pretty good recipe for success. Hope and pray for overachievement. Wait until next year ... and next year ... and next year....

I realize that a lot of you have the same old defeatist mentality, that you fear to be great.

But for the rest of you, your Cleveland Cavaliers just became the New York Yankees of the NBA.

Let's see.. which would I prefer (our last 4 yrs as Cavs fans)
1) EXPECT to still be a yr or 2 away from playoffs
2) HOPE to make the playoffs
3) EXPECT to make the playoffs
4) HOPE to make the finals
5) EXPECT to make the finals
6) EXPECT to be NBA champions

I'll take door #6 and all the pressure that brings with it.. when your roster looks like this one

For this year, I'm on the FIFY version above, as of right now

If the spurs start to show their age though, then, I reserve the right to upgrade.

I disagree, but I don't think they got as much as LJB (possibly) thinks either in terms of leverage. They only got 1 first rounder, the talk had been Wiggins, Bennett, possibly Thompson, and at least 2 first rounders. So I think Cleveland didn't give up as much (especially since it is a protected first rounder) as some thought they would have to, but they did end up having to give up Wiggins. So, in a sense, both teams win if Love stays long term.

The defense concerns me as well, but I think both Kyrie and Waiters have the potential to be plus defenders. The problem is they've never been forced to play it. Byron Scott's system was, um, defense challenged. ANd while Mike Brown is a defensive coach, that team was a mess and clearly wasn't buying anything he was selling. He was essentially a lame-duck coach by the first of January. A guy like LeBron is almost a player coach and word is the Blatt is a helluva teacher. I don't think it's a stretch to expect that they can improve in that area.

I'll disagree here. They didn't become the New York Yankees. They got a "homegrown" talent to "come back home", locked up another "homegrown" guy, and used other assets that they drafted to acquire a third star. They're now the Miami Heat, without the collusion, without the fan hate, and with a better supporting cast. This is a perfect storm that I never would have thought possible. They have one of the most talented rosters in all of pro sports, with the best player in the world, and most of it is young to boot. If this doesn't set up a several year long run that includes multiple titles it will be a massive flop. I'll take that pressure. It will be much more fun than it was the first time LeBronie was here and hoping each offseason that they could patch the holes that were holding them back. It'll be much more fun than hoping that Wiggins can become more than a good defender. Each year, they should be a prohibitive favorite in the East, and with the Spurs getting older, possibly a favorite to win it all. Next summer could shift the balance of power depending on what Durantula does, but for the time being, this is the hottest thing going in the NBA. For seven years (or at least the last four years he was here), the Cavs were LeBron and a cast of decent players that had some pretty good chemistry during the regular season. Then they were a punching bag for four years. Now, they're an elite team overnight. I'll take that over celebrating Andrew Bynum's corpse signing on and flaming out after six weeks. It's gonna be a blast.

David Blatt....you're welcome. His offense now has two great wing passers in Lebron and Love who will be able to make this offense really click. Plus we have a center in Varejao (if he stays healthy) who sets great screens, moves off the ball very well, and has a steady 15 footer. The pieces are in order, the bench is developed with shooters, the only issue is the post and depth there but when you look around the league there aren't many teams who are going to abuse you down there. In the East we're looking at Chicago as our biggest competition; they have what, Gasol, Noah, and Gibson in the post? I actually like Gibson's game a lot but I'm not worried about Gasol dominating the post. Noah I think will help make that a very interesting series....I don't think the media will forget his old statements from years ago and I'm sure he'll have some new ones. That could be a great rivalry.

David Griffin...much props, he's doing things Chris Grant would have never been able to pull off. He's going for it all and even if somehow this blows up in his face I don't think a single person would hold it against him.

Dave Blatt...man, I don't know how much he knew when he took the job...but talk about walking into a situation. Sheesh. If he's 2/3 of the coach he's reputed to be, look out. If the Heat can win two titles in four years with Erik freaking Spoelstra as their coach, Blatt should do just fine.

Andy is a guy I often overlook if simply for the fact that you can essentially pencil him in for missing at least 40 games with some sort of injury. If he could somehow find a way to stay healthy, it would be huge.

And while I'd love to give Griffin credit for pulling this off, lets be honest. This is LeBron. Without that bastard, and I still don't like him, none of this is going down. Cleveland is now a destination because the best player in the world plays there. Along with the young talent, he's the draw. Say that again...Cleveland is now a destination. In sports. Cleveland.
