Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

To me this boils down to two camps. Those that think we should do everything to win now possibly sacrificing the future and those who think we should try to build a franchise similar to what San Antonio and win over a number of years...

I understand that both trade scenarios could end in either outcome...

Actually I think there is a 3rd camp in play - the whatever LeBron wishes to happen camp. It's a player-oriented league and he is clearly the kingmaker in this scenario.

If the deal is Wiggins, Bennett, and one first round pick for Love, I'm OK with it. At this point, Wiggins doesn't handle the ball well, especially with his left hand. Also, at this time, he's a great passer. He had one assist in four games during the summer league.

Bennett is a power is a power forward, and he's not even 6'' 6" W/O' shoes. In other news, August ninth the will be a welcome home party for LBJ at the University Akron's football stadium. The stadium seats 30,000. Tickets were available for free on ticket master. Same tickets are now on found ebay for $100.00

What are the thoughts on giving up Wiggins if Love isn't willing to resign? If he's determined to be a FA next summer I'd almost rather wait out the season and then see if I can pull a sign and trade with just Bennett, Haywood and picks when the Wolves have almost no leverage next summer. The Cavs might not be able to win a title this year with or without Love, but I have no problem growing with what they have and adding pieces when they can. If a lot of things go the Cavs way (i.e. Rose not 100%, Spurs show age, Thunder can't stay healthy, Wiggins and Bennett develop fast, Blatt is a great NBA coach, etc.) there is no reason they can't challenge for the title this year as is.

I just think as of right now, the Cavs could be an elite defensive team in the league by midseason. The development of Wiggins obviously and Kyrie finding some defensive heart to go along with Andy's craziness and LBJ all make a pretty good defensive base. The scoring should still be there from Waiters, LBJ and Kyrie with possible development from Bennett and Wiggins, with more shooters now to come off the bench. We had defense when Lebron was here before but no offensive support like he could have now. If you get Love the offensive ability goes up but for what they are asking, the defense goes way down. The middle road is where Cleveland stands to make the most headway. By only losing a little on defense and pulling in more offense. If people feel they can't win it all right now the way things are, they have to feel the same way by gaining Love but losing the other support pieces and being poor on defense. Too many players have to get hot shooting in the playoffs to win it all without much defensive transition game with easily the most dominant transition player in the league.

I still say hold out for Bennett, Waiters, the Utah guys and a first rounder for Love. Crossing my fingers that Cavs front office might be listening.

There is NO trade discussion. PERIOD, if he (Love) hasn't signed an extension, NO TRADE at all. I'm not trading assets away for a one-year rental. In addition, I'm one of those guys that is on the team of not trading Wiggins at all. Wiggins doesn't have to come in and be the go to guy and he will get better as the season goes along. With LeBron, Kyrie, and Dion shouldering the bulk of the scoring, that frees up Wiggins to be the primary defender to relieve Lebron of that job.

Let's say we know for sure the deal on the table is Wiggins, Bennett, 2018 #1 and the fillers for Love. Here is my argument for NOT making the trade.

IMO Love should be good for let's say 22 PPG, 13 RPG, 4 APG

Wiggins should be good for 13 PPG, 5 RPG, 1 APG

Bennett should be good for 10 PPG, 7 RPG, 1 APG

While Love adds a more consistent 3-point threat, Wiggins brings a more versatile defender and a slasher to compliment LBJ and KI. While Bennett is not the 3-point threat that Love is, I do think Bennett will be a better shooter with LBJ's presence as well.

While I understand the Cavs have to give up something to get something, I think the Cavs are giving up too much in Wiggins and this trade will benefit the T-Wolves more than the Cavs short and long term. Wait until the trade benefits you (the Cavs) more.

Plus I like the idea of your proposed trade with Bennett, Haywood, others (Utah trade) but 1 1st round pick only.

Just a reminder... Love will opt out next summer no matter what. He wants to get PAID and to get paid, he will have to opt out. The good thing... the Cavs will have his bird rights and can pay him the most. The only thing Love will tell the Cavs is "I will opt out, but I will re-sign with you as long as LeBron is still here"

The only reason he wouldn't opt out is if LeBron tells him just wait one more year when the salary cap explodes so he would get paid EVEN more.

Then you'll be out of luck because love isn't signing an extension anywhere. It would cost him millions to do so.

I am sorry but I do not trust Kevin Love enough to assume he will opt out and still return. This would not be the first time we thought we were getting someone to re-sign only to be burned (see Boozer, see LeBron). Love has been rumored forever to want to go back to LA, and even though Cavs may be good, one year of not winning it all and he very well could decide to run to LA and still join a contender killing 2 birds with one stone.

W/o a commitment to opt in at least for an extra year, you cannot justify giving up Wiggins. Giving up Wiggins, Bennett, and picks for a one year rental of Love is exactly the kind of crap that happens to a Cleveland team.
