Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

If you want him this year.. you have to give up something.. and it has to balance out/be in the neighborhood of $15M
If you want him next year... you're gonna have to give up something... else the luxury tax is going to destroy you

Eh, not to get all greedy and all, but if the reports are true that Love only wants to go to Cleveland, then there's no way in [censored] I'd give up Waiters, Bennett, the three new guys, two #1s and $2million for Love and Dieng.

The Cavs would have to Euro-stash those picks anyway. Plus I'm not sure where Waiters and Bennett fit on a roster that's so stacked with talent. You'd be looking at:

Kyrie/Dellavedova
Wiggins/Allen??
LeBron/Miller/Jones
Love/Thompson
Varejao/Dieng

This also puts the Cavs in the ideal scenario of having Varejao play for just 20 minutes a night. Give Dieng close to 30 minutes, and the weakest part of your rotation is Andrew Wiggins. I'm okay with that. I'm especially okay with that if you would've told me it was possible 3 months ago.

I do not see any possibility that Minnesota gives up Dieng without having Wiggins involved in the trade...no way they are that stupid

I'm guessing Thompson will see a good chunk of minutes at the 5 and Lebron will split his time between SF and PF. If the Cavs do trade for Love I'm guessing most of the PF minutes will go to Love and Lebron. They do need to limit Andy to 25 minutes a game to try to keep him healthy.

Not sure about that one--they'd be getting Waiters, the three new guys, a #1 pick, and Thad Young (who they really want) in exchange for Dieng and one year of Kevin Love. Let me put it another way--they're not getting that kind of a deal without including Dieng.

If the Cavs can keep Wiggins, add Love, and add Dieng...That would make this the best offseason ever.
Couple months ago I was thinking about adding... Doug McDermott at pick #9...
Now we are talking about... LeBron, Wiggins, Love, and Dieng... Unreal.

Ultimately we may not end up getting Love or Dieng.
If I were the Cavs I would be willing to trade all first round picks next year to get the deal done. If that's what it took.
Irving 22, Wiggins 19, LeBron 29, Love 25, Dieng 24

That core 5 would be unbelievable. They could play together for the next 4 years and not lose a step.

You've been arguing with me and disputed my opinion that Love isn't one of the best ten players today. So when you change the terms of the argument midstream, yeah, it's confusing, not to mention irrelevant.

"Overall value" is a function not only of the player but of the team he's on. The value of some young point guard would obviously be a lot less to the Cavs than it would be to, say, the Suns. Top ten player means one of the ten best, and can't mean "one of the ten best values," which would be team-dependent. Kind of silly argument in any event. We agree Love would be a great addition in Cleveland. Just not, IMO, if they have to give up Wiggins to get him.
Uhhhhh, wtf are you talking about? My initial post didn't even mention you in it. It was just my top 10, which happens to come from a different perspective than yours. You're the one who argued with my post. And to say I changed my opinion midstream, maybe look back? Or maybe someone else was arguing against your point and you assumed it was me?

I agree with this. The only way they have a shot to get Dieng is to give up Wiggins. They might be able to eventually get Love and keep Wiggins, but it will just be Love. I read today that Lebron didn't want them to touch Irving, Waiters, Andy, and Thompson so who knows what's going on.

I just cant fathom any way possible, without trading wiggins, that the wolves give up Dieng...in Dieng's first career start when Pekovic goes down he puts a measley 12 pts, 11 Rebounds and 5 blocks...2 games later against houston he had 22 pts and 21 rebounds...he received heavy minutes the rest of the way...if they get rid of love they will need some sort of big bodies down low and no way they count on Pekovic lasting a whole year....even if they trade Dieng and love, and receive thad young, they still need another center since young is a true SF who plays out of position at PF...to me it would be idiotic to give up Love and Dieng in any sort of deal which is why i dont think it will happen

Anthony Bennett was pulled from a Pro-Am tournament in Canada on Tuesday, but is not injured.

His agent reportedly made the move, which should sufficiently throw the 'Kevin Love to Cavs' rumors in full gear. It makes sense, as Bennett's name has been included in potential deals for the Cavs to get Love since day one, although it's clearly speculation that something is in the works. Having said that, it's hard to think of another reason Bennett's agent would make such a move, so let the speculation begin.

Wolves only talking with Cavs, but posting because I STILL can't get over the fact that Golden State is unwilling to part with Klay Thompson. It's like they are either geniuses or just plain fucking dumb. I just can't decide which it is yet.

I mean he's a very fine player, but Love just seems like he would compliment Curry and their roster as a whole much more so than Klay could.

I would think Love must have told Golden State he wouldn't re-sign with them...For them to refuse Klay.
Its really looking like the Cavs are going to give up Wiggins, and still not get Dieng.

Every article I have read talks as if Wiggins being traded is certain.
Also the teams cant mention the trade if he is included, for 30 days.
Both teams are silent. I think Wiggins may be gone.

Also, Neither Wiggins or Bennett have played in the Pro Am Canadian Tournament.

I agree. I'm really beginning to think that keeping Wiggins was just us fans being a bit naive. I do think the Cavs could've had Love without giving them Wiggins, but it doesn't appear that the Cavs are interested in playing hardball or waiting it out this season (though I think it makes more sense to let this team grow and see where we are in January). It looks like the Cavs are going to give up Wiggins and Bennett (who I'd much rather have over Thompson and Waiters). I think Wiggins and Bennett will get better while we pretty much know what Thompson and Waiters bring, and neither of them fit the makeup of this team IMO.

I also don't think that there's anyway the Cavs were ever going to get Dieng who probably has the brightest future of any Timberwolves player. I am still wary of this trade, but the fact that Grantland's Zach Lowe thinks Love is one of the 5 or 10 best players in the league makes me feel a lot better. Adding Love may make Kyrie our third best player which is scary for the rest of the league. The scariest things for the Cavs moving forward are Kyrie and Love's injury history, and the top of the Western Conference.

Agreed. I've never understood the fascination with Klay Thompson, by the T-Wolves or Warriors.

Agreed. Wiggins and Bennett have way more upside than Thompson and Waiters.

If these reports are true (and I realize that's a big "if"), I think it's odd that the Cavs' front office didn't realize the bargaining power they'd have when the trade deadline rolls around. So taking this course of action (paying more than they need to for Love) must mean one of the following is true: (1) the Cavs promised LBJ that if he came back they would get Love, and the Cavs are willing to overpay rather than not fulfill that promise or (2) the Cavs think Golden State will cave on the refusal to trade Klay Thompson.

Something tells me all of this was determined back before LBJ even announced his decision to come back--recall the "I'm coming back to Cleveland article," in which Kyrie, Tristan, Waiters and Varejao all were mentioned, and Bennett and Wiggins were not. I don't think it's a coincidence now that all of the Love trade rumors have Bennett and Wiggins going to Minnesota...
