Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

i would love austin rivers on this cavs team...i think him paired with Kyrie would be awesome...my wish list for this years draft is getting a 1) Athletic Center 2) Athletic, Pure shooting guard...i want one or the other for the first pick we get...here is also a decent article in the plain dealer this morning talking about how we cannot take the same steps we did when we had with lebron, now that we have Kyrie...FYI there is a Jiri Welsch mention

Cleveland Cavaliers do not want to repeat the mistakes made in the early seasons of LeBron: NBA Insider

As the Kyrie Irving era begins, however, the young club has drifted toward a precarious place, the middle of the standings. The Cavaliers are 6-9 after Saturday's loss to the Hawks, and in a race to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Washington, Detroit, and Charlotte are setting a brisk pace.
By the time the rookie point guard reaches his third season, the Cavaliers would love to add more young pieces through the draft, allowing them to build toward long-term success. Or put another way, they don't want to repeat the faulty reconstruct from the early years of LeBron James.
On the surface that might sound preposterous given the regular-season win totals and playoff runs achieved during the last five seasons with James in the lineup. But because the organization was too shortsighted and too close to the middle of the pack during his first two seasons, the Cavaliers were never able to surround him with young players the way an Oklahoma City has done with Kevin Durant.
The same cannot happen with the 19-year-old Irving, who needs at least two more emerging talents to grow into a championship contender. A month into the season the Cavaliers find themselves mid table -- not good enough to make a serious playoff run or bad enough to earn another top-5 pick.

it's a bit of revisionist history in this article. first, the cavs blew draft picks when they did have lebron. luke jackson? really? trading a 1st for jiri welsh? get the hell out of here. those draft picks could have been danny granger and david lee.

and of course, there was the boozer debacle. the sins of 2002-2004 doomed that team from the start. then comes 2005 where people should have started to notice the storm brewing. lebron bitched and bitched about getting more talent around him. he did absolutely nothing to woo michael redd when he could have really helped the cavs snare him. he made no effort to reach out to ray allen. the result, damon jones and larry hughes. the rest is history.

the cavs already have more assets in place to avoid a lebron sequel, provided they don't totally flub their draft picks.

The Cavs have done a horrible job of drafting, and keeping the decent picks around long enough.

Luke Jackson
Shannon Brown
Christian Eyenga

Then you mean to tell me we were able to draft Andre Miller, Brendan Haywood, Carlos Boozer, DeSagana Diop, yet get jack shit in return for them. All of which are still playing in the NBA. :shake:

Just to be a glass half full guy, let the record reflect that today the Cavs have a better record than the Knicks, Nets, Raptors, Bucks, Pistons, Hornets, Wizards, Suns, Kings, Warriors, and Bobcats. That is all. :)

Which is bad because they are screwing themselves out of a high draft pick!

no concerns. They'll ship off Jamison and Sessions soon enough and begin the full blown tanking process. They simply aren't as bad as the nets, wizards, kings, and pistons. The rest on that list will probably pass the cavs by in the next 2 weeks.

I could/should look thru this thread.. but ...

What's the skinny on Sacramento's pick? unprotected if they make the playoffs? why is that good? if they make the playoffs, the pick is end of round... if they don't make the playoffs, do we get next years? ???

Here you go.

And, umm... yeah, I'm not trying to type it. (actually theoritically if the Kings suck from now until forever, Cavs may get nothing)

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

Long story short.. in addition to our own picks. The Cavs have2013 and 2015 first round picks from Miami (with some qualifiers that if the 2013 pick is top 10 protected in '13 or'14, the 2015 pick will come 2 years after that one).

A 2012,13,14,15,16, or 17 1st round pick from Sacremento which is protected in the corresponding years at 14, 13, 12, 10, 10, and 10)

So, there's 3 extra 1st rounders in the the next 3 or 4 years, prolly.

Then...

Second round

'12 from New Orleans (via Miami)

'13 From Orlando

'14 From Orlando

So hopefully Tom Heckert helps them out and takes RGIII

Here's the deal: If the kings are in the lottery this year, they keep the pick. In 2013, the pick is protected from Nos. 1 to 13. In 2014, it's protected from Nos. 1 to 12 and from 2015 to '17 it is protected from Nos. 1 to 10. If the pick is not transferred to the Cavs by 2017, then Sacramento will give the Cavs its 2017 second-round draft pick.

Who comes up with these crazy-ass trade provisions?
