Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Griffin says that he thinks Wiggins can succeed at SG in the NBA. It's getting crowded back there with Waiters, Wiggins, CJ Miles, Carrick Felix, and Joe Harris. I can definitely see the Cavs making a run at Love with some combination of guards, Thompson, and Wiggins. It's a bad move if it doesn't actually lure LeBron, though. Love, Irving, LeBron, a defense-first center, and a few shooters (like Joe Harris) would be an immediate title contender. I've got to think that Hawes and Deng are gone. Hawes is actually their best option at center next year if he isn't too expensive, but I don't see it happening.

The Cavs have also traded Alonzo Gee for Brendan Haywood and Dwight Powell (45th pick, PF, Stanford).

That statement was probably made in the unlikely event that another SF wants to come to Cleveland. I would be surprised if Wiggins isn't the starting SF next season. I would have no problem with them bringing Hawes back for the right price assuming they don't sign or trade for someone else.

Miles is a free agent and Felix will be lucky to make the roster as he's a former regime 2nd round pick.

The whole 'SG' or 'SF' aspect is vastly overrated when it comes to pigeon holing players into spots. SG's and SF's are wings and will play similar roles in the motion offense that Blatt runs; Wiggins can D up on the 'traditional 3' which is all that matters IMO.

I hope Miles & Hawes stick around. Those two and Varejao still have value in my eyes. Guys like Felix and Harris have probably never been in the plans as anything more than back-ups. My best guess is that they see Harris possibly developing into one of those guys who comes off the bench as a sharp shooter, kind of like Belinelli for the Spurs.

I wouldn't have a problem with that if they aren't able to sign or trade for a bigger name. Hawes is a good fit with the guards that the Cavs have. I love drafting Wiggins, but he isn't going to do much to open up the lane for Kyrie and Dion this year so they need the 4 and 5 to create space. Bennett and Hawes could do that. Hopefully Karasev gets good enough to be the backup SG and give the team a deep threat.

I really like the Wiggins pick. I think the Cavs dodged a couple potential pitfalls with Embiid (fragile big man, awakens the comparison of the oft-injured Oden) and Parker (lousy defender, wouldn't be the greatest to add to a team that already has one star who's a subpar defender).

I like the Harris pick in the second round, he is a 4 year college player with an NBA ready body. He is a tough, heady defender, who knows how to score. I honestly think he will be a very solid bench player. If you watched Virginia play at all this year he always seemed to play well and do the right thing on the court, kid is a smart, mentally tough player.

People keep saying that Parker is the better player now, but I don't even buy that. He'll put up some stats in Milwaukee, but I think Wiggins may be the better overall player this year and definitely into the future.

I think Parker will be a better scorer this year, but Wiggins will be the better player when you factor in both sides of the ball. The Cavs didn't need another undersized PF that might not be able to defend NBA SF's. At least Wiggins comes into the league able to defend SF or SG with the ability to become an elite scorer over time. It would be awesome if he could develop as spot up 3 this summer. He's the kind of player than needs to find one thing to focus on every off season to improve his game. i.e. spot up 3, left hand, ball handling, etc. Summer league should be fun this year with all the picks they've had over the past couple years.

Agreed - he had a stellar season year while playing off the ball more and a better leader. He'll be 23 by the time the season starts which is a nice plus; older than Kyrie and Dion.

He moves off the ball very well, can catch and shoot, good passer....he fits a role that no one else did off the bench yet.

Good link for Joe
