Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

You have to think that people who find their way into decision making positions in major sports are a lot smarter than Joe Message board. Yet, here I am knowing the Calipari is an average basketball coach who wins because he buys the best players year after year. Why would anybody in the NBA want him as a head coach...let alone a head coach/president?

Rereading the article it sounds like the deal is off the table and he's headed back to college.

Yeah the enormous stupidity involved in hiring Calipari would be amazing.. even for Cleveland.

dude was in the nba once. he was a terrible year one, backed into the playoffs year two and was immediately swept, and started out 3-17 in year 3 before getting canned. nothing about that resume and his .391 winning percentage screams must have.

There are some basketball coaches who are meant to be coaches at the college level (Pitino, Calipari, etc.), who gave it a shot at the NBA level and failed. IMO, there are a few college coaches who could be successful at the NBA level. Tom Izzo and Shaka Smart are two who I think could be very good NBA coaches because they are just damn good coaches. Whoever is advising management better get a clue. While there isn't much to choose from, I hope the Cavs give Adrian Griffiin a shot.

From 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland - interview of Jason Lloyd (Akron Beacon Journal) by Adam the Bull and Dustin Fox.

Lloyd stated that Dan Gilbert contacted John Calipari on his own and that GM David Griffin didn't know about the contract offer.

I have a friend who is close to someone very high up in the Cavs organization. He told me that Gilbert did the same thing with the draft pick of Anthony Bennett. According the the Cavs' source, "Bennett wasn't even on our board the morning of the draft."

Ugh, I love his willingness to spend but he seems to be dabbling too much, let the basketball people do their jobs.

Report: Sixers ask Cavs about obtaining No. 1 pick
The 76ers have reportedly inquired about trading for the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft on June 26.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were awarded the top spot during last month’s lottery. The Milwaukee Bucks are second, while the Sixers have the third and 10th picks.

But Fox Sports Ohio reported earlier this month that another team in the top three called the Cavaliers to measure their interest in trading the pick. ESPN.com reported in Tuesday’s updated mock draft that the Sixers were the team interested in moving up.

The report said the Sixers aren’t willing to give up their third and 10th picks. They will, however, possibly give up a combination of the No. 3 pick and power forward Thad Young, according to the report.

What are your thoughts on this scenario, NJ?

If I'm the Cavs, the only way I do this is if the Sixers offer #3 and Noel (if the knee is 100%), not Thad Young. The Cavs need help in the middle.

If I do that I draft Embiid at #1 before I make the trade to make sure one of the wings is available at 3. It would be hard to turn down another top pick from last year and still end up with a better player than what has been available over the past several years.

It would make sense if the 76ers wanted one of the wings... if they are offering Young.. but I'd rather keep Thompson than make this trade
If they offer Noel, they want Embiid.. and #3 and Noel could make me ponder.. why would they give him up? how bad is that knee
I'd probably only go for #3 and #10 combined.. despite this is what they don't want to do... but they have FOUR good slots in Rd2 as well
Nobody wants 6 rookies
I'd then package #10 and #33 for a veteran.. which would be a function of who I take at 3

Milwaukee probably posed #2 and #31.. they have THREE picks in Rd2
Nobody wants 4 rookies
