Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Taking Wiggins is "scared money?"

To me yes, when Embiid has the highest ceiling of anyone in this draft. Not to mention I think Wiggins might have the biggest bust potential of the top three, Embiid barring health will be a defensive force, Wiggins while also having very high defensive potential and being able to guard multiple positions, does not bring the eraser on the backside of the D that can make up for mistakes by our weak defensive guards.

Wiggins has more bust potential than the guy with the broken back?

As for Drummond and Oladipo-- Drummond was seen as a huge project. I can't fault them passing on him. In fact, IIRC, I think most here were praying they didn't draft him, me included. Oladipo was never going to be drafted by the Cavs. And while I think he could be a very solid player, again, most years, he's probably going much lower than he ultimately did.

Oladipo had decent overall numbers this year since the Magic decided to put him in there and let him play, but if you look more closely at his numbers, he didn't play that great. His shooting percent is low on the way to his 13.8 PPG. He's the one guy from last year's draft that I wouldn't have taken, along with Len.

My mind seems to change weekly. I keep going back and watching Embiid's workout, and I can't help but be impressed. Even Jabari Parker looks fantastic too based on his showing. I know that is only a small sample size and all but they are really impressive. Makes me happy watching bc I know we are almost guaranteed to get a stud, future all-star.

I'm starting to like Embiid the most and staring to think that his injury concerns are over inflated.

Wiggins wasn't even the best player on his team...Embiid was.

When Embiid got injured and sat out the rest of the season, Kansas only won half the games they played.
When Kansas was knocked out of the tourney...Wiggins was a no-show.
(went 1-6 shooting, scored 4pts, and had 4 turnovers)

Embiid is an anchor. Kansas crumbled without him. (Wiggins didn't save them)

Wiggins is a workhorse, and Embiid (who you can't count on to be on the floor) doesn't play many minutes even when he's out there--he only went over 30 minutes in 2 of the 28 games he played. His sample size is so small, and I'm surprised people on BP aren't more cognizant of that. And the whole stress fracture in his back thing.

My greatest fear of Wiggins is that he is too passive and the he doesn't have that killer instinct and drive that the studs people are expecting him to live up to.

Any guy who could only shoot 6 shots during his last game in college ball scares me a little. In KD's last college game he shot 24 times and scored 30 pts. Even Jabari took 14 shots in his last game. Wiggins took only 6.

If we take Wiggins we have to be sure that we can fix his complacency.

yea, i don't want embiid. him and kyrie could platoon on the IR or whatever they call it in the NBA. put them two together for a couple of years and i will be whining and wanting to trade them to the WNBA on this board.

rather have parker or wiggins.

if i could trade down with philly and get parker at 3 and pick up their 10 i am doing that in a heartbeat. maybe even draft embiid at #1 as part of the trade to make sure he is gone and you are getting either parker or wiggins.

if i can't trade down though, now i think i take parker.

According to espn, Embiid played 6 games 30+ minutes.
Embiid averaged 23 minutes. Wiggins averaged 32 minutes. Only a 9 minute drop off and Embiid is Much bigger.
Personally, Im excited regardless of who the Cavs draft. All three have ridiculous potential.

Feels good to be #1

You do realize that a college game is only 40 minutes long, right? I'd say a 9 minute difference (which is almost one-fourth of a game more) is quite substantial.

and Embiid is Much bigger.

Maybe the Cavs should draft Vlade Divac at #1 then, if that's the criteria we're going by.

Agreed. But one has back issues. The other two don't. And we're talking about a franchise that can't afford a miss here.

Centers typically play less minutes. Not sure what we are arguing here.
4.5 minutes less per half compared to Wiggins, who is 50lbs lighter, is not that big of a surprise to me.
It will take Embiid longer to develop than Wiggins. The kid has only been playing basketball, what 2-3 years.
His body will need training and more time to adjust to NBA's long seasons.
His type of back injury can be managed and avoided in the future with the right training.

Wiggins is a safer bet, yes. But...The Cavs ultimate goal here is a championship.
The best FA's aren't lining up to come to CLE, Which makes the draft critical.
An all-star PG and, an all-star Center are the building blocks to a championship team. IMO

Cavs have Irving at the 1, Dion at the 2, Bennett/Thompson at the 4, Embiid at the 5.
They would just need a sharp shooter at the 3...and a good coach...

Alternatively...Wiggins could be the sharp shooter at the 3,
Cavs would just need an athletic and offensive presence in the paint...and a good coach...
