Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

That's the first think I thought of when I saw the Kevin Martin contract. Too bad the days of front loading a contract are gone, this would have been a perfect time to do it. I would love to see them pick up Pekovic or Asik. I hope they at least try.

the cavs are obviously going to be sitting out the first wave of FA, as they should. looking at the deals being thrown around yesterday can only make you shake your head and laugh at bad teams being bad.

$56 million for igoudala?
$28 million for kevin martin?
Tyreke Evans, the bowel cancer of Sacramento, the guy that refuses to play SF getting $44 million from N.O.?
Hell, Martell Webster is getting over $5 million per.

Earl Clark, 2 years 9 mil with team option on the 2nd year.

Great contract for an improving player who has some versatility at SF/PF. But I just wonder what we're doing here considering we just drafted a versatile (and much more athletic) SF/PF #1 in the draft. And we still have this guy named Tristan Thompson.

I wouldn't expect Clark to see much time at PF, he'll get almost all his minutes at SF and give Gee a run for his money. I see Bennett focused on PF, as Grant had stated.

For the 4/5 you have Varejao & Thompson to start with Bennett & Zeller off the bench (I know, not starting the #1 pick is cray cray but it's the best balance and best lineup to go with as of today in order to have playoff dreams).

Gee & Clark man the 3 and give us great length and defense at the spot, clearly something Mike Brown loves. Clark was a guy he loved in his short time in LA so wouldn't be surprised if he got the nod over Gee.

Good 3 man rotation at guard. Get Kyrie, Waiters, and Jack 30-35 minutes a game and they will be doing pretty well. Would have been nice to hold onto Ellington as a 4th guard because I don't think they are going to be able to do any better now that they have Jack as a backup. Maybe the kid they drafted in the 2nd round or Karasev can take some minutes at SG. Not really a problem unless Kyrie, Waiters, or Jack get hurt.

Jarrett Jack is an A-plus signing. Needed a combo guard to spell Kyrie and Dion. Still wonder we're doing at the 3 spot. If Bennett wasn't drafted to start, I don't get it.

Agreed, unless something is in the works that we don't know about. Wouldn't mind us going hard after Tony Allen and putting one of our bigs on the block.

Bennett is going to come off the bench at PF to start. That's where his game is best suited. Maybe he'll see a few minutes per game at SF at the start of the season, but once Mike Brown realizes he can't guard SFs on the perimeter, he'll end that experiment quickly. If he can put it together quickly on defense at the PF spot, I wouldn't be surprised to see him inserted in the starting lineup later during the course of the season.

Allen has already agreed to a contract extension with the Grizzlies.

I watched Boris Diaw give Lebron James more trouble on defense than any player in the league last year. There are certain SFs that Bennett can be adept at defending because of his size and athleticism. There will be a huge learning curve, but there has to be a way to get him and Tristan in the starting lineup together longterm. And it isn't with Tristan playing center.
