Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Without reading all the previous "the sky is falling", I'll just make my point and move on in regards to the Bennett pick....

Show me one player better at the pick and roll then Bennett....anyone....anyone?

Fantastic compliment to our stud, Kyrie. You take the BPA in the lottery everytime and you won't go wrong. You have a surplus at one spot? Great, trade power is a good thing. That said, Bennett fits in great with what we were looking for and a 3 headed scoring monster of Irving, Waiters, and Bennett with Thompson off the bench....yeah, I can get behind that.

They would not have passed on Andrew Wiggins, but taking Bennett is definitely part of a plan to appeal to LeBron.

When you watch the Heat, the thing they've done well is give him floor spacers. The one weakness is a lack of inside scoring. Bennett is a rare blend of outside shooting, something Bosh has, but can score on the block as well. The kid is only 20, but the idea is to provide a floor spacer at the 4 who has the ability to get buckets in the paint. He's explosive at the rim as well which means he'd be a great finisher when LeBron attacks which is something Bosh also struggles with.

I have no idea if LeBron comes back, and quite truthfully, I kinda hope he doesn't. But I think Bennett was taken with LeBron in mind. Now they need a defensive center that can clog the middle and provide rebounding.

I think Tristan will be moved by the trade deadline and maybe as soon as a couple of weeks. He's a good player, but he'll never have a consistent jump shot, and he's the type of guy as he approaches his late 20's/early 30's and loses his explosion, he's pretty much done. Obviously we're a long ways away from that, but his game is limited.

I think you just made the point of why we took Bennett, regardless of any consideration of Lebron. Anthony can play inside and outside and provide matchup problems for 3s and 4s.

Tristan isn't going anywhere.

I think you're right on. Bennett is a great fit with Kyrie, especially for the pnr.

I'm not holding my breath for the return of LBJ. I'd gladly take him back but I can't imagine his ego allowing him to go anywhere but L.A. Kobe will almost be done and they should have plenty to spend.

On an unrelated note I see they signed Kenny Kadji to play on the summer
leage team. He may have a chance to make the team or at least be sent to Canton. For a big guy, he's got some pop from long range. He's old (25), which was the only reason he didn't get drafted. I'd be surprised if he didn't play well in Vegas.

The whole "Is Lebron coming back?" issue is probably one that is as compelling as it is unlikely to ever happen. I'm generally reluctant to even ponder the question because it casts a cloud over the current roster.

If I'm asked the question of whether I'd take him back, same response every time: OF COURSE I'D TAKE HIM BACK. HE'S THE BEST DAMN PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. I'd honestly rather win a title without him than with him though.

The problem is the longer the Cavs keep cap space for next summer the less likely this stupid Lebron talk is going to end. I can't say that there is any FA SF on the market that I would throw money at this off-season so the talk will likely continue through next summer. The Cavs have pretty much filled every hole other than SF and C, but C isn't as important as it used to be.

The problem for Lebron is that he won't go anyplace that doesn't already have at least 1 superstar or will bring one in with him and there probably aren't many teams with a star or cap space. What do the Lakers have if Howard leaves and Kobe retires? Would the Clippers have cap space to sign Lebron? Would Boston have enough other pieces to make that an option? If Houston misses out on Howard they would have cash to make a run next year. The Cavs are going to be a great landing spot for some SF, but I just don't think there's any chance it's Lebron.

That's a very bold statement considering they've already tried to package him for Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge.

I really do not believe the FO views Tristan as an integral part of the future. He's a solid player but more a guy who is an asset to help acquire the missing piece rather than being a part of the finished product.

They've "reportedly" tried to package him for players they couldn't realistically obtain via trade. They also were "reportedly" drafting Alex Len.

A lot of this is my opinion, but other parts are from a fantastic Cavalier insider on RCF. Mike Malone (now head coach of Golden State and former assistant under Mike Brown) was a best man in his wedding. He also has contacts throughout the agent industry.

Anyways, he said Thompson was packaged in multiple deals trying to bring back an all-star quality big. The idea is to get a floor-spacer that can also run pick and roll.

And if the rumored deals with Minnesota and Portland are accurate, I think Portland is especially crazy for saying no. Minny and Portland are taking huge chances on guys who likely won't be around another few years.

somebody is going to price pekovich out of minnesota's range, then love will walk. aldridge will walk from portland in 2 years, and both teams will be wondering what happened.

but if omer asik falls in cleveland's lap for half of the price of the two bigs mentioned above as collateral damage to the dwight howard proceedings, you can't argue with that.

If I had to guess: Josh Smith will be signed (by Atlanta) & traded to the Rockets for Asik

The days of sign and trades are over with the new CBA since teams can't sign a guy to a 5 year deal then trade him. So, there's no motivation for smith to sign with Atlanta if he wants a big contract as he could only get 125% of asik's deal.

Maybe he's okay with this if he's playing with Dwight & Harden

I hope the Cavs make a run for Pekovic. With the signings Minnesota made today, he should definitely be available.

That's the first think I thought of when I saw the Kevin Martin contract. Too bad the days of front loading a contract are gone, this would have been a perfect time to do it. I would love to see them pick up Pekovic or Asik. I hope they at least try.
