Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Just filed to ESPN: Cavs & Grizzlies are in talks on a deal that would send Marreese Speights & Josh Selby for Jon Leuer. Picks involved

apparently it's memphis sending a pick or two to cleveland. this deal is soley to keep memphis out of the luxury tax.

I wonder what saving 8+ mil over 2 years is worth to Memphis? This would hold to Cleveland not wanting to tied up salary beyond 2014, but if Speights pans out they might be able to sign a big FA contract and then resign their own FA's over the cap. Memphis doesn't have a 1st rounder this year, which means they couldn't be trading next years 1st rounder either. If the Cavs are planning on getting good again in a couple years it might not be bad to trade for a 2015 first round pick from a team that might suck by then.

They aready do: Miami's. LBJ gone, Wade washed up and Bosh being
mangina Bosh. That pick will be good.

The Memphis pick will also likely be 2015, unless they were to tank the rest of this season and the pick would be from 6-14.

it's not just $8 million over two years. it's also the luxury tax penalties they would be paying as well.

It's nice to have an owner that is willing to take on salary in order to improve the big picture and then pay the tax in order to make the team better when it matters.

If the Cavs are able to sign one of the big FA's in 2014 a trade like this could be critical to bringing in one more quality player for a title team. For all we know this pick could be something to trade a year from now to make a run at one of the soon to be FA's that are going to walk for nothing in a few months.

Kyrie destroyed the Celtics tonight

cleveland tried to actually lose by playing luke walton and omri casspi together for extended minutes. the celtics would have none of it.

tristan thompson beasted again last night. it might actually be mildly entertaining to watch he and speights together.

Seriously, what has gotten into him. About a month ago I was thinking, "Well, this is why you amass as many picks as you can, you're gonna miss bad once in a while" (I mean, if your plan is to build via draft, whatever).

Anyway, good for him.

P.S.- Kyrie is good.
