Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I have a feeling that the Lebron back to Cleveland stuff is going to get really annoying before it's all said and done. Unless the Cavs use their #1 pick on a SF or make any trades that lock up salary for more than 2 years it won't stop.

If this is the plan it seems like both sides would have handled it better in the beginning. I just hope the Cavs aren't holding up building a roster just so they have a shot to sign Lebron. If Gee or Miles is the starting SF going into next season Lebron will be back or Gilbert is an idiot for trying. I don't think you turn yourself into a billionaire by being an idiot.

it's a lot more complex than that.

first, 2014 is a big FA class.

secondly, the new cap floors and new luxury tax penalties are kicking in. ergo, teams are going to be desperate to dump salary wherever they can, even if it means giving up something valuable in return. having massive cap flexibility in the 2014 offseason is just smart business.

thirdly, the LBJ to Cleveland train is yet another media driven horse abortion. Tom Withers and other fools have been tweeting ambiguous LBJ statements for weeks, and saying point blank that Cleveland won't respond, which is exactly what Cleveland should do.

fourthly, wade and bosh are both bitching in miami, and they haven't looked nearly as strong, which only fuels the fire more.

finally, it's not like there has been a young good SF for the Cavs to snare either via the draft or FA in the last year. the cavs dipped their toes in the Batum water but that was it. the 2013 draft class is weak in terms of SF. anyway, if you've watched the Cavs the last 5 weeks, you'd see that their interior defense is a total dumpster fire. Getting someone like Alex Len or Nerlens Noel at the top of this draft is really a no brainer.

At this point, they need a 3 and a 5. I haven't followed UCLA enough to see how Shabazz M has been doing. I like Len and everyone seems to like Noel, even though he looks like he could easily be snapped in half.

Tristan Thompson had been doing suprisingly well, especially with Andy out. He seems to be a hard worker and is slowly getting better around the rim. It's hard to find any of the '12 draft picks that are playing as well as him. Fareid is an animal but not too many others are playing like him.

the only problem with shabazz is that a lot of people feel he's a SG and not a SF. he's probably a tweener. but he would be light years better than alonzo gee. watching the cavs get dick slapped in the paint each night because their backcourt defense is sketchy at best and outside of thompson, their interior defense is a joke, is enough to take the 5.

EAST TEAM
1. Who should start at backcourt spot No. 1?

Dan Feldman, PistonPowered: Rajon Rondo. Kyrie Irving is the flavor of the month, and he's probably having a better season. But I judge All-Star selections based on which player I'd prefer in a game today. That's still Rondo.

Brett Koremenos, HoopSpeak: Kyrie Irving. Cleveland has been terrible this season, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Irving has been nothing short of phenomenal. He absolutely deserves his first All-Star berth of many this year.

Danny Nowell, Portland Roundball Soc.: Irving is the lone bright spot on an otherwise dismal Cleveland team, whose all-around offensive game and no-longer-abysmal defense give him the edge over Rajon Rondo's market-inflated value.

Michael Wallace, ESPN.com: Rondo. With Derrick Rose working his way back from injury and Deron Williams remarkably inconsistent, Rondo is clearly the East's best point man this season.

Nubyjas Wilborn, HawksHoop: Rondo. His 11.4 assists a night is amazing, especially on a team that doesn't score many points. Celtics' run for titles may be over but Rondo is tough.

People already saying Kyrie should be starting in the all-star game. Awesome.

I remember when both brothers were the owners. Did they succeed
the infamous Ted Stepian as Cavs owners ?

On an unrelated note: the Lakers won again last night to pull within 3 games
of the last playoff spot. I can't imagine Kobe and Howards' ego's would let them tank so I'm in anti-tank Lakers mode. It would be great to get that second first rounder into the mid teens.

A year and a half into the rebuild and all four draft picks appear to be keepers. Zeller can be a decent contributor off the bench.
