Cleveland Browns (official thread of Masochism 2015)

Jason La Canfora - 02/04/2015

Browns fans, I have a mea culpa to issue. I owe you all an apology.

When Jimmy Haslam took over your once-proud franchise I was fairly effusive in my praise. Finally, I wrote and said, the rudderless franchise would have direction. It would have an omnipresent, accountable owner who was steeped in building teams the right way.

As a former part owner of the Steelers, Haslam was a product of The Rooney Way, and would continue that family's wildly successful philosophy and focusing on the draft, establishing continuity and stability in the front office and coaching staff, doing things the right way, treating employees as equals, empowering from within. Everything I heard about Haslam from his time in Pittsburgh pointed to him being just the man for the long-suffering Browns, and the way the NFL helped fast-track the entire transition process from Randy Lerner to Haslam spoke to its enthusiasm that this sleeping giant in Cleveland would finally awake as well.

Boy, was I wrong. I could not have been more wrong. Things are actually worse than ever in Cleveland, where even a surprising seven-win season has been marred by the unraveling of the staff, the roster, and any faint hopes that for once, finally, this franchise might be on the upswing. Haslam has brought nothing but misery and instability to the franchise, at the same time a federal investigation into fraud charges was ravaging the business his father created, Pilot Flying J.

How bad it has gotten in Cleveland

The culture in the Browns building is toxic, I'm told. Morale is beyond low. If you can flee, you are fleeing. There is no shortage of individuals throughout that organization who would, like former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, get the hell out of there if at all possible. There's an overwhelming sense of dread about the future and a fear that, come the end of the 2015 season, Haslam will do the one thing he has managed to do with any consistency during his three-season reign -- that is, blow up his entire building once again and fire everyone, in essence blaming all but himself for his sweeping failure.

Today the rich (Ohio State) get richer....

And the stupid (Browns) get stupider.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns and general manager Ray Farmer are facing possible sanctions from the NFL for "Textgate," including a multigame suspension for Farmer, and a fine and loss of draft pick for the Browns, league sources told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

The investigation -- one of three "integrity of the game" probes currently underway in the NFL -- is expected to be wrapped up soon, as early this week or next week.

NEOMG reported on Jan. 6 that a Browns"high-ranking personnel member texted from the press box to the sidelines about playcalls'' during a game, which was one of the reasons former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, now with the Falcons, felt that working for the Browns had become dysfunctional for him.

Multiple league sources have told NEOMG that Farmer was the high-ranking personnel member who violated the NFL's electronic use policy by the impermissible texting. Those messages were then apparently relayed to the coaches.

Let's hope that the NFL takes away the Browns' two first round draft choices for 2015. Better to lose them altogether than get stuck with a two more total busts....

I gave up all hope of this franchise ever turning things around back in 2012. Drafting Brandon Weeden cinched it for me. If that article doesn't do the same for the rest of you...oof, I feel sorry for you.

If there's a merciful God out there, he'll relocate this snuff film of a franchise and spare Cleveland any further embarrassment.

I can't envision how this team would lose a 1st round pick for something that clearly didn't influence the product on the field.

Meanwhile the Patriots will go untouched even with the findings of 11/12 footballs being under-inflated but the classic "it wasn't us" defense.

Fuck the NFL.

Does it even matter? With the baboons running this clown show, they'll just fuck it up anyway.

i'll agree with everything but his comments about losing Shannahan .... thats a blessing ... not sure how they got that fortunate... His year in Atlanta with those weapons will prove it out.

I guess I do not even understand what the big deal is if Farmer texted down to the bench. I mean if he is the GM and was bitching about some of the play calling what is wrong with that and if he was texting some plays to coaches they obviously did not work so what the hell. I mean the NFL has bigger things to worry about than helping the Browns lose games they can do that without the help of the NFL.

They were investigating the Falcons using canned crowd noise. There is no end to the minutiae the nfl will investigate.

Nice to see the Cleveland sports franchises in good shape...toxic buildings, despotic owners, looming suspensions, current suspensions, guys in rehab, Danny Salazar being investigated for sexual assault...Jameis, come on down! Wait, the franchise will have no way of drafting him :slappy: :slappy: :slappy:

This is simply a rouse to take spotlight off of New England. The far more deserving team to be fined and lose draft picks.

Goodell isn't going to do shit to them and this helps get fans distracted from the evidence discovered of wrong-doing.

They'll trade next year's picks for him. That's how they always get their QBs.
