Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

Browns attempted 45 pass plays .. Watson was sacked 6 times and hit 17 times.. that's half of every attempt he was being hammered
plus he was forced to run 5 other plays... Our RBs totaled 54 yards.. EIGHT OL penalties.. Dropped passes...
Watson was not awesome but I don't see him as the cause yesterday

Edit.. just watched a long clip of Watson... My lunch will consist of crow.. He really sucked... That arm ain't right...

Let us not forget all the goodwill the Clowns burned with bringing on Watson and his baggage.

I did not think the Clowns could have outdone themselves on the QB position after selecting Manziel, but here we are.
This franchise is a joke and has been a joke since the NFL brought them back in 1999. They cannot help shooting themselves in the foot. Of all the high profile moves they've made, Myles Garrett is the only one I can think of that has really paid off at the level expected of it. That's over 25 years. One move.

I'm not going to pretend to be able to assess offensive linemen's talents, but how would you grade the move to draft Joe Thomas? I mean, even if you include him, I think that makes two moves in 25 years.

Also, "at the level expected of it" might be up to interpretation. What has been expected of Denzel Burke? Or Jarvis Landry? Nick Chubb?

I'm not arguing, and actually agree. The management has been no better than I could do throwing darts, I think. Except I wouldn't have gone after Watson with the offer they made. Baker Mayfield wasn't going to be "the guy", but it would have been nice to hold onto those draft picks, and probably the draft space.

Good call on Joe. Somehow forgot about him. He was absolutely a homerun. Unfortunately, they surrounded him with crap.

Everything was bad yesterday. The Watson trade will go down as one of the worst in NFL history since it will be judged on how well the Texans do in the aftermath. Trading 3 first round picks was bad, but giving the dude the biggest guaranteed contract after he refused a trade was incredibly stupid. Not that Fields is a great QB, but I would have rather stuck with Baker for the last year of his contract then traded the Bears a pick for Fields. Even if it was a single first round pick at the time the Browns would be in a better spot now than they are. Add that to the fact that they paid Baker 10M to go away when Watson was suspended for most of his first season anyway. I can only imagine how well Baker would have played if they told him to suck it up and be the QB Watson's first year here. He plays best while being disrespected and that would be the ultimate disrespect.

On a side note I had a coach once that said things are never as good or bad as they look in week 1. Hopefully that is the case for the Browns, but they better get one of the LT's healthy and get Dawand on Ozempic. I can only imagine how good the dude would be if they could get him down to 320-330
This is just not a very good team, which is why not having those draft picks triply hurts. Way too many deficiencies across the OL, LB, secondary, depth almost everywhere...do I think Winston would give them a better chance to win? I have to say I do. Do I think he will somehow magically lead this team to an 11-5 finish to make the playoffs? Not with this group. And he would have been better yesterday, but not much. Most teams have at least 2 RBs that can play. Some have 3. This team has Chubb (maybe for 13 games) and nothing impactful behind him, despite guys like Dobbins being out there. Most teams have 3-4 receivers that can at least work a route or go deep once in a while. This team has Cooper. Jeudy is OK I guess, but nothing exactly wowed me about his play yesterday. I didn't see him open a lot. Njoku is decent when healthy, which doesn't seem to be very often. The OL has injuries, but it is a smouldering dumpster fire regardless. Couldn't block Parsons in any situation, but OK, a lot of teams have trouble with him. What about making Eric Kendricks look like some sort of Lawrence Taylor clone? Dallas didn't run for a lot of yardage, so that was OK, but Prescott had way too good of a day. Too easy of a day really. Nothing huge in the numbers, but he was efficient, didn't turn it over, and with the offense the Browns ran out there, Dallas didn't have to push the envelope or even try and do much. They got eleventy-billion in cap space...uh, good? But that space don't do shit unless they add useful players with it. Right now, top to bottom, this is not a very good roster, and even if you consider Garrett and Chubb, it is one of the shallowest and least quality league-wide.

Welcome back to the Commissioner's Exempt List
"This new case raises plenty of issues, from the standpoint of the league and the Browns. It’s possible that Watson could be subject to further scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy. It’s also possible that a suspension — if one is imposed — could give the Browns a path toward voiding his remaining salary guarantees and ending the relationship."

Media really sets unrealistic expectations. Sadly, most fans tend to believe them.

-The OL, especially the tackle spots, have been in shambles since Conklin went down.
- The IOL is getting old and it shows.
- Ford is a below average RB with good straight line speed and that's about it. But he invites too many second level defenders to the hole and doesn't account for that. As a result, the play action game isn't anywhere near as effective like it is with Chubb.
- Still a contrasting set of coaching philosophies that can't mesh. Where you have Dorsey who worked in a gun based, vertical zone with Josh Allen, as Watson was in Houston, vis a vis Stefanski being a disciple of the stretch zone from under center and a more deliberate, down field type passing game. So we're again getting a horse-abortion mix of these looks.
- Barely function RPO game.
- Watson attempting to make a clearly re-tooled throwing motion work, less than a season removed from injury. One that has sapped what arm strength he had and has ruined his downfield accuracy. Edit: his body language sucked too, no getting around it. He just doesn't have a 'rally' or angry side to him. I'm not saying it's necessary, psychos like Brady and few and far between. But at least show like the guys in the huddle are looking to you for guidance.

- Fans longing for Baker in a hilarious way. Like we didn't see what he did in 2019 with an average Oline (highest bail rate from clean pockets in the NFL) and only being beaten by Jameis Squinston himself for most INTs thrown. Watching fans rehabilitate that image is a laugher. We can pretend he would have been significantly better, but most of us don't have a memory that's 5 minutes long.

- Yep, the trade was too much. Most of us agreed even then, that Watson *was* talented, but the draft capital surrendered was too much. Haslam, just like with Manziel, had to have his way and make the giant splash. They gambled, although at least on what *was* an NFL talented QB.... And the fans got burned, because that's really who suffers most.

When we went back under center, and worked some ball action along with the screen game, the offense started to piece together some competency. I would hope and trust that's the formula for the rest of the season.

I was asked why we're still playing Watson if he doesn't give this team the best chance to succeed. Simple answer? There are 4 QBs currently in college with 1st round grades. If you're going to part ways with Watson after this season, you need to be damn well sure.

Jacksonville is only a -1.5 favorite. If the injury list is favorable, you'd have to be silly not to again bet against CLE. Personnel issues don't just go away magically.

It's insane that the starting QB being sued for sexual assault might be something that helps the team.

Nice job, front office. Satirical levels of incompetence with the Watson deal.

As others have mentioned, this team has little depth. The backups are just average. Heck, the Bucks have a better running back stable than the Browns. They gave a mediocre quarterback way too much money. I say tank the season and draft Ewers. He actually looks more promising to me than the other 40 this team has tried since ‘99
