Dude's a decent-but-not-great runningback and he's making 1st rounder money. If they were intent on trading him for whatever reason, a 5th rounder is the best they were going to do.

1st round money isn't much if you're going off the rookie pay scale...?

Point being is that Hyde was a local boy, NFL vet, and a RB that can attack inside, outside, protect and give you a steady rushing presence. We were all well aware he wasn't a long term move, that includes Dorsey himself who made this trade.

Getting rid of him, especially for a 5th round pick, was not a crafty idea.

I'm actually a fan of that move. Not for the return (which was the best they could hope for), but because it give their two playmaker backs a chance to show whether they're a part of the future.

I love Carlos Hyde for what he did in C-bus, but take "Ohio State" out of the equation and look at his NFL career objectively. I've watched him for five years now, and for whatever reason, his game has not translated to the NFL as a feature back. Does he have some positive attributes? Sure. But he's an inefficient runner who is best served in a part-time, 8-10 carries a game role. But good ol' Hue insisted on feeding him the rock 20 times a game while he mustered 3.3 ypc. Meanwhile, Duke and Chubb languished on the bench gathering moss. Dorsey knew Hue was gonna continue to run Hyde 20 times a game to the detriment of the team's future, so he took the option away. They need to know how much they can count on Chubb and Duke, and that wasn't gonna happen as long as Carlos was there.

Approaching 800 career carriers too. I have no clue if that is some NFL RB threshold, but it seems like it may be, especially for a physical runner.

Still not happy losing 'Los. Tough, team guy.

I hate to see him go too. Great team guy. But the dumb ass head coach (and OC) were gonna continue calling his number like he's fucking Todd Gurley.

I realize it's a very small sample size for both, but Chubb is averaging almost 11 per carry and Duke 6. Yet, they're averaging about 6 carries a game between them. That's fucking stupid.

Edit: I believe you are also experiencing the availability heuristic. Gurley is a career 4.3 ypc guy and Hyde is a 4.0 ypc guy.

- thats got nothing to do w/ Hyde... just Hue being himself. Need to fire him first.
- Chubb looks like a poor mans Hyde at this point... and injury seems inevitable. Would rather keep both and RB by committee.
- Browns have no need to make this trade. It's Jax thats under pressure to shore up their underperforming and injured RB situation for a playoff return... the most Dorsey could get was a 5th? Not impressed.

He's averaging 3.4/carry, which is something like 40th in the league. Buckeye blinders aside, that's nothing special or irreplaceable.

I personally wouldn't have moved him yet, but if the thought is that Chubb is going to be a better player and they want to accelerate his development, getting a 5th for him is the right move. John Dorsey should give no fucks about him being a "local boy" or where he went to school and that's the lens a lot of fans are going to look at this through. Pragmatically it's only going to end up being a negative if Chubb gets hurt or does something like...average 3.4/carry.

The guy the Jags are hoping Carlos fills in well for was averaging a whopping 3.7 YPC this year and averaged just that all of last year.

If you want to accelerate Chubbs development, first and foremost he'll need to show a grasp of not only the playbook, but understanding of blitz pickup assignments. Which he has been shaky at best so far.

John Dorsey should give no fucks about him being a "local boy" or where he went to school and that's the lens a lot of fans are going to look at this through.

Dorsey absolutely should give a fuck. It is no secret this team has been pure trash for 20 years. It is also no secret the bulk of Browns fans are also Buckeyes as well. Bringing in vets like Hyde help give this team
steady production and endear the fans to the team. If we were more successful that wouldn't be an issue. But right now you kind of want that hometown flavor on your side while you try to bring about a winning attitude.

Pragmatically it's only going to end up being a negative if Chubb gets hurt or does something like...average 3.4/carry.

Which is most likely to happen. As said earlier, people (and Dorsey) are seeing stars in their eyes from 3carries for 103 yards. Chubb still runs a bit too upright, still doesn't chop his steps like he should and is still running
behind the same line Carlos was. That 11ypc average is going to shrink a great deal with him receiving most of the carries now.

Only bright spot is maybe, just maybe, this coaching staff being forced to use Duke will give them the kick in the ass necessary to actually scheme him some designed looks.
