Barkley won't be a bust if he goes to a team with a good OC that knows how to maximize what he does well.

What he is not is some transcendent talent that can show up and dominate regardless of scheme.
Agreed, if he was there at the top of the 2nd round, maybe even late first I wouldn’t hate the idea of getting him, but him being a top 20 pick is ludicrous

Guys, guys, guys...we’re missing the obvious. It’s so clear what’s going to happen when you strip away all of the nonsense...

With the first pick in the 2018 National Football League draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

John O’Korn, quarterback, University of *ichigan.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

He's the most draft ready QB available. Said so himself. That's gotta count for something, right? :slappy:

No John! No John! No....

Barkley is a lot like Allen. He's not a bust... but the media hype is strong.
Both freaks in a physical sense. Both have significant issues on tape that only Al Davis Raiders and Cleveland Browns would ignore.
For all those amazing combine numbers, Barkley just doesn't play to his stature. He's a fat Eric Metcalf. When Moorehead went to the QB 2 out of 3 times from the goal line for the game against us... it just confirmed that his own coach doesn't trust Barkley to grind and fight for yards in the 4th.

Don't get me wrong, Barkley is good for a big-play TD every game and his big play ability definitely makes him 1st round value, esp if he can find a team with a real bruiser. But in between those big plays he only gets ~2.6ypc IIRC -- in College. That's not going to get better in the NFL. And it's not like 1 or 2 games against elite opponents brought that down - those are his numbers against the likes of Rutgers. Nor did Penn State have a hard schedule: Georgia State, Akron, and Pitt. His only consistent game was Iowa.
Is an X-factor wannabe Reggie Bush worth a top 5 pick? Especially at the least valuable draft position where production can be found anywhere ? No way.
Too many questions about his physicality imo. Based on his film from Penn State, I don't see how any team could even expect him to be a 3down back. His production plummets in the 3rd and 4th quarters. He doesn't even qualify as a traffic cone in pass pro... which is disappointing considering his demonstrated capabilities and size in the combine. But he just doesn't care if the ball isn't in his hands with space to break free.

I respect that breakdown. I get everyone's critiques and I have never typically been the guy that advocates taking a RB in the top 10 (or usually the 1st round period). But does he need to be that type of player right now with Carlos Hyde in the RB room with him? I think Cleveland needs a home run player that is a threat every time the ball is in his hands and I think Barkley will be just that. I think he could be an exceptional receiver and kick returner on top of a great RB. If he is that, he is definitely worth a top 5 pick to me when Cleveland has 2 of the top 4.

Barkley is what he is, whether the Browns have 1 or 4 first round picks. The Browns need to draft #1 like it’s their only first round pick and then draft #4 the same way. Having 2 first round picks doesn’t somehow justify wasting one on Barkley when you can find that kind of talent later in the draft.

I’ll find them an RB who wears down late, dances behind the line, lacks patience and has to hit the home run to be worth the high pick. I’ll find that much later than 1 or 4 if they can’t.

Plus, the Browns have Peppers to return kicks.

I mean, if he can’t do that, he’s essentially worthless (if he isn’t already returning kicks included.)

I guess I will just have to agree to disagree on Barkley with everyone at BP, I am in the clear minority on that one apparently haha. The only RB I think that might fit the bill that would be available in the 2nd is Sony Michel (I actually think he might be the best RB in this draft class). I get maybe waiting until #4 to see if he is there, but I don't see passing on him if he is still on the board at that point. But again, appears I am the only one that feels that way. While I am not a Browns fan, I do actually want to see them do well, I am sick of Ohio being the laughing stock of professional sports. So it is an outsider's opinion, but not one that is coming from a bad place.

And definitely got a pretty big laugh on the Peppers comment, it was really tough to see him get drafted to Cleveland. I just wanted Pittsburgh to draft him and then I could full-on root for him to fail. Then again, it would have worked out somehow if they drafted him.

Hey, standing really really really really far back away from the other team is what he was drafted to do on defense. Where else can he do what he’s best at other than on kick returns? He’s a natural.

Really though, it’s like when short goofy kids get picked to play basketball. The good kid usually just says “I’ll handle the ball, you go stand over in the corner behind the three point line.” That is Jabrill Peppers.

So everyone in the world is saying it will be D’arnold at #1...and then Dustin Fox tweets today that he is hearing it is between Allen and Mayfield because the coaches don’t like D’arnold. Now I am happy if that’s just smoke screen shit...but kill me now if that’s true.
You know he's not Italian, right?

Which means they are going to draft Chubb 1st and take whichever one of the 3 QBs that are left on the board at 4....
