Now there’s “reports” that the Giants like Darnold at 2 but not Rosen. Riiiiight. So then the Browns think they can take who? Barkley/Chubb at 1? Giants take Darnold, Jets take Mayfield (you know, because reports) and then the Browns can take Rosen at 4? I’m sure the Giants (Jets, too) would love the Browns to be that dumb and history suggests that they are but everything that comes out at this time of year is practically bullshit.

Of course, according to this scenario, the Browns can take Rosen at 1 and take Barkley/Chubb/Jabrill Peppers at 4. Like they should, minus the Chlamydia.

Normal Pre-Draft chatter. While I try to say the Browns won't fuck this up, I'm jaded. They will take Allen #1 and Rosen #4 with hopes one of them will pay off. But Allen will walk up on stage after having his name called to the Browns, trip and fall and completely dislocate his throwing shoulder while Rosen will pull an Eli.

Browns, this is not hard to do and do not get cute:
#1 - Sam Darnold, QB, USC
#4 - Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State, if he is taken at 2 or 3. Trade down for several more picks (Bills might be a good trade partner with 12, 22 and a 2nd)

DENZEL WARD AND 11 OTHER BUCKEYES WORK OUT FOR CLEVELAND BROWNS

92358_h.jpg

The Cleveland Browns last drafted a former Ohio State Buckeye in 2009, when the franchise selected wide receiver Brian Robiskie in the second round. Ohio State has won a lot of games since then. The Browns, well, haven't....:slappy:

Monday, the Browns hosted Denzel Ward and 11 other Buckeyes for a private workout.

The full list:

  • Cornerback Denzel Ward
  • Defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes
  • Tight end Marcus Baugh
  • Linebacker Chris Worley
  • Defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle
  • Defensive tackle Michael Hill
  • Safety Damon Webb
  • Safety Erick Smith
  • Wide receiver / special teams ace Elijaah Goins
  • Linebacker Zach Turnure
  • Cornerback Trevon Forte
  • Defensive lineman Nick Seme
The Browns hold nine picks in the 2018 draft, with five in the first two rounds.

I agree except don’t trade down. Again. If Chubb is gone (unlikely) take Fitzpatrick. Or hell take Ward. Take a risk on a big talent. Don’t watch Julio Jones go by again to take a fat guy from Baylor and kick the can down the road. It’s time to try and cash in. For fucks sake.

Not trying to troll at all here, but you want to pick a turnover prone QB at #1 in the current state of the Browns' offense? I think Darnold is the worst possible fit for the Browns to be perfectly honest. I know I will get lambasted in this thread for this and I'm not a Browns fan (but also root for the Browns if it isn't against Cincy), but I think Barkley at #1 and Mayfield at #4 would be great for Cleveland. I honestly do think Barkley is going to be an instant star and you basically get two positions with one at RB/WR, plus he would be a great pairing with Mayfield, who can move around and deal with the deficiencies in pass protection better than the other QB's at the top of the board. And this is coming from a guy that hates Mayfield and Penn State. Maybe not Mayfield if Rosen or Allen is available, but I can also see the less mobile QB's getting eaten alive in Cleveland and being ruined if forced to start right away.

It really depends on the Giants and if Chubb is on the board to me. It becomes pretty easy if the Bills trade into the 2. Take your QB at 1. (It's gonna be Darnold, sorry everyone - I'm not advocating for that, I just think that's where it is. ). Chubb at 4. Call Seattle and nicely explain that you understand that they need to get out of their pick because they have a 1 and nothing else and pick up a LT or CB or whatever. You could have 3 1st round picks and still be on the clock to start day 2.

If on the other hand... The Giants take Chubb to replace JPP... A literal kings ransom could probably be had for the 4 and you have to listen.

I think you're right about Darnold being the #1 pick. Like you, I'm not advocating that but it does seem to be what Cleveland will do. In thinking about it, it occurred to me - this is the kind of draft you really don't want two of the top 4 picks. I don't follow this as closely as a lot of you, but I just don't see a real good choice for #1 across all positions, and certainly at QB. It continues to mystify me that because there is a QB draft eligible people think that said QB will amount to a hill of beans in the NFL. Which is to say, it's a BAD QB class (Josh Allen being in the discussion is hard evidence of this in my IMO).. it happens. Everyone (meaning the draft talking heads) seems to think its 1983 every fucking year. And... it hasn't been... since.. 1983.

Somebody needs to go 1, I guess... but.. it seems to me this is the year you trade back....

Still think Barkley at 4 is asking for trouble. Great athlete, and if he were a WR I wouldn't have the same opinion... but.. as I've said, a RB who goes backwards as often as he does and doesn't seem to care much for contact just doesn't scream top 5 pick to me.

I don't see your opinion as trolling. Any argument can be made between the Quarterbacks available and any one of Barkley, Chubb and Fitzpatrick. My rationale is every top QB available has shortfalls, Darnold - TO prone (can be fixed); Rosen - Injury prone and doesn't want play in Cleveland; Allen - Accuracy and competition questions (The first can be fixed) and Mayfield - Size and attitude (Is he Drew Brees or Johnny Manziel?). So with Rosen out of the picture, that leaves three choices and based on the biggest question marks between the three, IMO, Darnold has the fewest question marks and worthy of the #1 pick. And what is really cool, he doesn't have to start immediately. With that being said the Browns have passed on a QB at #1 since Tim Couch and we know how that turned out and every QB since. A QB will be the pick and the only guy in this draft that will be picked at #1 over Darnold is Barkley. I just do not see any scenario the Browns NOT taking a QB a #1

The hardcore scouting seems to think Darnold is legit, and the rest are Trent Green or worse. If the Browns agree... Take the guy, then let everyone else think it's 1983. Chubb is the only guy I see spending the 4 on. If he's not there, and the Bills just must have that pick... Well, then they must I guess. To me, Rosen is Cutler, Mayfield is probably Jeff Garcia and Allen looks like roflberger but his stats say he's probably Kyle Boller.

Allen - Accuracy and competition questions (The first can be fixed)

This is where I don’t agree. Can you really fix accuracy? Is he suddenly going to learn how to throw accurately now he is in the NFL? The completion percentage may improve a little with pro WR to throw to but if he isn’t accurate now, I’m not taking him in the top 5. Also, he can’t read defenses well. This is a guy who HAS to sit. I don’t disagree with a top QB getting to sit and learn but I also feel that any QB taken top 5 should be ABLE to come in if needed and at least not be a deer in headlights. Allen, isn’t that guy, IMO.

Maybe he can learn and maybe he isn’t a bust but you don’t find out on that kind of player with a 1 or 4 overall. If you get him later, great. If you don’t because someone else took the chance (most likely later than 4,) don’t lose any sleep over it.

I’ve been very patient with this franchise and hate when people say they’d be “done” with the team after [insert scenario here]. If this happens, though, I would legitimately have a hard time watching another Browns game for a long time. Didn’t watch one win in two years for Josh fucking Allen.

People who know a few weeks ago were saying it was definitely Darnold. Now they're saying Allen. If this weren't the Browns, I'd feel pretty good about it actually being the best QB of the bunch in Rosen.

here's the thing, if you look at the number of turnovers for each qb by the number of total passing and rushing attempts for each qb, those turnover ratios are not much different at all.

so, for all the people complaining about darnold's turnovers really don't have that much of a leg to stand on.
