Cleveland Browns (2016 thread of unrelenting dumpster conflagration)

God I hate this organization.

I don't have much hope for the analytics... at best in 20 years when it's a refined system and Tampa Bay wins another fluke Super Bowl with it, we can all say it started in Cleveland, where they worked out all the kinks and mistakes.
Just like Belichick giving us "Metcalf up the Middle".

At least I'll give Haslam a little credit for going outside of the box. Instead of repeating the same exact losing pattern over and over again they're trying something novel... just wonder how long before the novelty wears off.
Well, so far, no front office/coaching staff has lasted longer than 2 years under Jimmah...

does Patricia mean another switch to the defensive front? I can't remember what the hell we are running. if we are running a 4-3 then law dictates we must hire a 3-4 coach and so on.

We've been running the 3-4 as our base D for at least the past 3-4 coaches. Might have been Crennel that brought that in. I think they move to more of a 4-2 for Nickel, which is probably where the confusion comes in. The only position that would really be hurt by a move to a 4-2 would be OLB, but If we could draft a guy like Bosa it would make that easier.

DL: Bosa, Bryant, Sheldon, A Bryant? Reserves: Starks, Cooper, Hughes, Mingo?, Orchard (just pass rush), Kruger?
LB: Dansby, Robertson, Kirksey, Carder, Orchard?

Get rid of Kruger and Mingo if possible, but everyone can be made to fit into either defense. Some just fit better than others.

They've had a lot of "smart" people making picks over the years. Might be time to try auto-pick and see what happens. I'd love to see the analytic models for the past 5 years and see how the computers did compared to on the field performance.

That sounds about right for a novelty.

I have a feeling the analytics don't exist yet... which is why this is so EXCITING (hahaha)

The media geniuses wouldn't have done any better than the shit front offices we've had... if anything they all thought Quinn, Weeden, Manziel should've been drafted earlier. Richardson, Gilbert, and Erving weren't considered reaches by the media either. Much of the fanbase bought all in on Johnny dumbass too... thus the shirt sales, unfounded optimism, and driving away a decent game manager.
In reality I don't think the last front offices were intelligent at all... it seems like they always bent to media pressure and their scouting efforts may as well have been Mel Kiper's big board.
The best solution would be to hack Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots internal networks and steal all their scouting reports. Then hire some interns that are actually literate (like Ohio State grads?) to decipher those reports and translate them into hillbilly so Jimmuh can understand it all and make the right picks (he's apparently holding that power anyway so may as well just go straight to him)

cleveland ran as many 4 man fronts as 3 man fronts this year. either way does it matter? their lb's are poor at best and they have no real pass rushers regardless of system. with shelton and hughes and des bryant they would at least have 3 dts. plus in a 4-3 it would at least be entertaining to watch bustavious mingo try to play SLB. that guy is the tristan thompson of the nfl. all kinds of athletic ability, zero skill in playing the sport he's paid to play.

In our 4 man front that would probably put Kruger back with his hand in the dirt at end.

Lord knows the guy is an absolutely liability at SLB.

Edit: Front would look like, Kruger, Danny, Desmond, Bosa. With Kirksey WLB, Dansby in the middle and Orchard at the SLB.

From the Scout Watercooler comes the following post

At Haslam’s press conference to announce Hue Jackson hired as head coach:

Grossi: Who is the new head coach?

Haslam: That’s correct, Hue is the new head coach.

Grossi: That’s what I’m here to find out.

Haslam: I said Hue is the new head coach.

Grossi: Who is?

Haslam: Yes.

Grossi: You’re still the owner right?

Haslam: Yes of course.

Grossi: And you don’t your coach’s name?
