Cleveland Browns (2016 thread of unrelenting dumpster conflagration)

I just realized the Browns have won a playoff game more recently than the Bengals. That could change today.
Marvin. Lewis.

Gase having full roster control and calling plays for a first time head coach is asking for failure. Don't know what Miami is thinking there.

By the by, apparently gase wasn't their first choice, hue Jackson is. So when he turns Cleveland down next week, you can say they missed their top choice.

Case has a lot of leverage because a lot of teams wanted him...the only way the fins moved up the queue was to give him whatever he wanted, I imagine

Still say the Browns should go get Lovie Smith. He is an experienced head coach who knows how to win. This flavor of the season assistant coach just doesn't get it. The Browns need someone who knows the ins and outs of being a head coach at the NFL level and not someone who is going to learn on the job. Lovie just might be the guy who can at least get them to respectability.

Haslam's ego won't allow it.

I think that their #1 choice might be Patricia. He fits in with what they are trying to do with the analytics and all of that. I would not mind him. I know he is another Patriots DC but since the Browns organization is going all in on analytics they might as well get someone who certainly understands them. They had tried other methods so I would be fine with Patricia and all the analytical stuff.

does Patricia mean another switch to the defensive front? I can't remember what the hell we are running. if we are running a 4-3 then law dictates we must hire a 3-4 coach and so on.

I thought we were running a 3-4 but most of the time I did not know what they were running accept guys on an off the field. Actually, sometimes I think they ran a 3-4 and at other times a 4-3 so that personnel situation will not matter. We need better personnel anyway.

if base is 3-4 ... law dictates we must hire a 4-3 DC... its the rule.

God I hate this organization.

I don't have much hope for the analytics... at best in 20 years when it's a refined system and Tampa Bay wins another fluke Super Bowl with it, we can all say it started in Cleveland, where they worked out all the kinks and mistakes.
Just like Belichick giving us "Metcalf up the Middle".

At least I'll give Haslam a little credit for going outside of the box. Instead of repeating the same exact losing pattern over and over again they're trying something novel... just wonder how long before the novelty wears off.
