Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

The one problem that I see with this draft is that you have the Browns taking too many DTs. That is probably their strongest position. I guess I would substitute a DB at pic 2B and in round 4 I would look for something on the offensive side of the ball.

.

well Hageman was too good to pass up and will ply 5 tech for Mike. McCulllers is fing MASSIVE, only so many people in the world are that big (6-6⅞, 348, 35 5/8 arms, 10 5/8 hands, 85 1/2 wingspan) would be a good back-up NT and goal line guy.

Byrd is a stud, if we resigned Ward and put those two together look out. Don't forget the Browns are going to tie up a lot of money in Haden, Ward, and in the upcoming years in Gordon.
the only problem that I have with the Browns getting Byrd is that will tie up a lot of money in just the defensive backfield and does not address the offensive side or the LB positions at all. Ward alone is going to be more than $8 mil and I have no idea what JH will want but it probably will be more and add Byrd to that… I just do not know.

Rap said if they trade for Bryd they will let Ward walk

I keep wanting to get excited about this new coach, but then I remember that Brandon Weeden beat his defense last year. Brandon. Weeden.

This is incorrect. While Weeden played, he sucked.

The Browns D knocked both Manual and Jackson out of the Game....

Travis Benjamin had a PR for a TD and I think another long one to set up a FG.
Ward had a Pick Six...

While Weeden did throw a TD, it was a chuck it up in the End Zone and Gordon tracked it and closed on it by running completley around the db who was in full stride... and pulled it in, in a catch that maybe only 5 or 6 guys can make.

I remember McGahee being not terrible, so if there's one thing to worry about it would be that.

But I reiterate, Brandon Weeden didn't beat anybody.

In Pettine's scheme the safeties have to be interchangeable, don't know the browns very well so couldn't' tell ya. But last yr Pettine moved a CB to SS and he played his best ball I've seen out of him.

As a Bills fan, can you help explain some of the struggles that defense had against the run? The Atlanta game sticks out in my mind. The coaching staff seemed to have no response for an unbalanced line. Should we expect similar problems in Cleveland? It's still the AFC north - stopping the run is a priority.

that could be a problem with the Browns because we do not have that many quality CBs to be moved to other positions. That would definitely mean that we would have to take a quality CB or SS in the draft.

We had 1 quality true LB and that was a rookie in Kiko and he is only I'd say okay vs the run. All our other LBs are meh, Manny Lawson, Braham, Moats. Jerry Hughes was only used as a push rushing specialist and Pettine got 9 sacks out of him. We lacked a true run stopping LB, and lacked another good all around LB. Also what hurts the run D sometimes is the wild formations Pettine uses but I'd take that over a vanilla scheme since the yr before we had that and the run D, pass D and pass rush stunk. At least with Pettine we were 2nd in INTs and sacks. Mike turned a bust 2nd round pick at CB (Aaron Williams) into a very good SS, a bust 1st round CB (Leodis McKelvin) into a very solid #2 CB, a bust 1st round DE/OLB (Jerry Hughes) into a 9 sack player, a UDFA (Nickel Robey) into a solid nickel CB and he made a rookie LB (Kiko Alonso) almost D rookie of the yr.

That's twice the simulator has had Hyde going to the Browns in the third. I don't see any way he lasts that long. Jeremy Hill in the 3rd seems more logical.
