Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Well I will become a Browns fan if you guys take my precious (Pettine) away. If I was Bills GM I'd fire Doug and hire Pettine to be HC just to keep him plus I think Doug sucks along with Hackett (the OC). Pettine turned the D around 180 from Wannstedt's bring 4 all day long no blitz to Pettine blitz from everywhere from 100 different looks. Turned a UDFA Nickel Roby to a stud slot CB and McLovin from a crap CB to a half decent one. If the Bills didn't have Pettine last yr they'd have the #1 pick this yr. I will lose all hope if he goes.

I was talking with my Pops yesterday, and when I brought up Tressel. He said that it would be too difficult for the Browns to get rid of him if it didn't work out.
Have any of you heard a similar POV to NOT entertain the idea of Tressel coaching in Cleveland?

I haven't heard that from anybody, but it makes sense. Ease of termination is the top quality the Browns look for in a coach.

Koetter is a joke. 2-19 versus ranked teams at ASU and almost had the team revolt over how he handled the Sam Keller/Rudy Carpenter situation. Follow that up with uninspiring OC performances in Jacksonville and the free falling Atlanta Falcons who were 20th in the league in PPG.

Signs point to Pettine, but Browns interviewing today

Apparently they want to talk to Koetter and Quinn again. It's always nice to see the media use lines like this:

So stay tuned, the Browns either have a coach or they don’t, so there’s still time for more people to turn them down.

Sooo, does anyone else get the impression that they didn't really think this one through before canning their incumbent coach?

Rumor I heard is that Chud did not like Johnny Football, and Haslam has a major hard on for him so they decided to go in a different direction.

I like the possibility of Quinn or Pettine being able to take our D up to another level. Just would need a strong O coordinator to compliment that but that might be difficult at this point to find one.

I have a hard time beleiving that's why he was canned. Chud had no player personnel authority so whether he liked him or not wouldn't have mattered much.

Haslam is a guy that cuts ties very quickly if he doesn't like the fit, it's the same reason the Pepsi exec was fired from Pilot Flying J after just 4 or 5 months. I'd feel decently confident it was the 'type of person' Chud was that rubbed Haslam the wrong way. Whether that was he didn't have enough fire, heart, passion, etc. I'm not sure.

That said, I'd be perfectly fine with Pettine and outside of Whis he's one that I've liked the most. I could care less about how someone does as a coordinator or play caller, it's complete BS. John Harbaugh was a ST's coordinator all his life and seems to be doing just fine as a HC. It's organizational skills, it's being a leader, it's putting the right people in place, it's about respect and you can get that from a position coach or ST's coordinator and not just the OC/DC retreads we keep pursuing half-assedly.

Given the abundance of love for Johnny Hatecrime from ESPiN along with other media outlets in the sports world, if this rumor was more than someone talking out of their ass we would have heard it by now.

Agreed. Let us hope that the input from our scouts and Farmer means a lot to Banner and Haslam - otherwise we're going to have to deal
with that asshole as our starter and another 3-4 cycle of shitty QB play.
