Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Given the abundance of love for Johnny Hatecrime from ESPiN along with other media outlets in the sports world, if this rumor was more than someone talking out of their ass we would have heard it by now.

Dear Lord,

I try not to ask for much but please this year... let the browns go into the draft without a coach, trade up to draft Johnny Manziel, have him hold out or demand a trade al la Eli Manning, force him to sign with Cleveland and play there, have them hire someone laughable as coaches and coordinators and please for Roger Goodell to video ALL of it for Hard Knocks...

Amen

I have a hard time beleiving that's why he was canned. Chud had no player personnel authority so whether he liked him or not wouldn't have mattered much.

Haslam is a guy that cuts ties very quickly if he doesn't like the fit, it's the same reason the Pepsi exec was fired from Pilot Flying J after just 4 or 5 months. I'd feel decently confident it was the 'type of person' Chud was that rubbed Haslam the wrong way. Whether that was he didn't have enough fire, heart, passion, etc. I'm not sure.

That said, I'd be perfectly fine with Pettine and outside of Whis he's one that I've liked the most. I could care less about how someone does as a coordinator or play caller, it's complete BS. John Harbaugh was a ST's coordinator all his life and seems to be doing just fine as a HC. It's organizational skills, it's being a leader, it's putting the right people in place, it's about respect and you can get that from a position coach or ST's coordinator and not just the OC/DC retreads we keep pursuing half-assedly.

Your explanation makes more sense to me than that rumor. Again, just something I saw, I don't even remember where I saw it at and I was hoping someone else had some more insight into the situation than I did. I like what I have heard about Pettine and his aggresive style on defense. For all we heard about Horton being aggressive and showing multiple looks, it seemed like we ran the same few blitz to me all the time.

They had more conversations? Thought that was off limits until after the Super Bowl?

If even it isn't - Grossi is a hack. I doubt there is any truth to that.

Who is most likely to get the job? A man you're about to interview for a 3rd time? Or a previously failed HC you've yet to interview?

It's not actually because the identity of the candidate is a secret. It's just that the Browns didn't catch his name. Picked him up hitch-hiking, seemed nice enough, and they thought "Oh, what the hell? Why not?"

Not really 3rd interview... contract negotiations per many tweets this morning. So as long as the Browns don't screw that up...

the only way pettine screws this up is if he arrives in berea wigged out on coke, with his dick stuck in a cantaloupe. and even then, they'd probably overlook the cantaloupe. the browns could screw this up by trying to force feed him coordinators and a coaching staff. but you'd hope they learned their lesson last time.

So like I said... hope the Browns don't screw this up.
