Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

if I were the Browns, I would let Mack walk instead of matching a possible offer that he might get from another team. It is rather obvious that he does not want to play in Cleveland and he probably will be history after next season anyway.

Mack’s agent confident a deal can be crafted that Browns won’t match

Last week, the Browns applied the transition tag to center Alex Mack, guaranteeing him $10 million for 2014, if/when he signs the offer. He hasn’t signed it yet.

Peter King of TheMMQB.com reported Monday that Mack’s agent is “confident” that he can structure an offer sheet with a “reasonable likelihood” the Browns won’t match. It’s important for any team that signs Mack to an offer sheet to believe the Browns won’t match it; otherwise, the new team will have negotiated Mack’s new contract for no fee or other compensation.

With the poison pill no longer available and the Browns flush with cap space, it will be hard to get the Browns not to match the offer. While Mack’s agent may believe that he knows the limits of the Browns’ budget on a long-term deal, the plan surely will be revisited if/when another team signs Mack to a long-term deal beyond anything the Browns previously have offered — especially since the Browns will receive no compensation if Mack leaves.

QB Matt Schaub is a "serious possibility'' for Cleveland Browns, would compete with Brian Hoyer, source says

It's a "serious possibility'' that the Browns will sign Texans veteran quarterback Matt Schaub to compete with Brian Hoyer, a league source told cleveland.com.

Schaub, an 11th-year pro, flourished under Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Houston, playing some of his best ball under the Browns' new playcaller.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Schaub spent three seasons with Shanahan in Houston in from 2007-2009, with Shanahan serving as his quarterbacks coach in 2007 and offensive coordinator in 2008-09.

The Texans might release Schaub, 32, because he's due to make $10 million in 2014.

Cleveland Browns likely to pursue Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby in free agency

The Browns are likely to pursue Cardinals premier inside linebacker Karlos Dansby when free agency opens at 4 p.m. Tuesday, a league source said.

Dansby, 32, would replace D'Qwell Jackson, who signed a four-year deal with the Colts last week. The Browns were also unsatisfied with the play of inside 'backer Craig Robertson as the 2013 season went along.

peter king talking out of his ass once again. guy is a hack of the highest order.

that being said, if some team is batshit crazy enough to fully guarantee the final 3 years of a long term deal for Mack, at about $8 million per, then so be it.

Well, not really, Peter King is merely reporting that Mack's agent is saying he can structure a deal that the Browns won't match. King then goes on to say that its gonna be a heavy lift for that to actually happen. Having said that he is a hack of the highest order, this may not be the best example of that.

Mack's agent on the other hand, sure I bet he could structure an offer sheet the Browns wouldn't match. Is any team going to actually take said offer sheet and present that to Mack to sign? I mean, I can walk around Dr. Evil style with my pinky to my lips saying "ONEHUNDREDBILLIONDOLLARS" too.. Doesn't mean anyone is gonna take me seriously.

Matt Schaub and the Cleveland Browns were made for each other.

Honestly, if they're sitting there thinking that the QB's on the board don't fit for whatever reason, and they're committed to the BPA.... (Heck, even I suggested in the past to just sign Vick and try again next year) The Hoyer/Competition might not be terrible, and maybe take a late flyer. There are some good players to be had I think, I mean, there are guys projected solidly in the 3rd that I'd feel real good about taking in the 2nd.

Naw, it's Mack's agent trying to drum up offers. Cuz most teams won't even bother with Mack because they will assume the Browns will match. So why even waste their time talking to Mack.

Look buddy, just because Peter King went to FredOU doesn't mean you have to defend him.
