Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Peyton Manning set all kinds of rookie records in his first year. He wasn't great by his standards, but he was pretty good, showing signs of greatness, and was the standard the Browns were holding themselves to when they drafted Tim Couch the very next offseason.
3-13 record, 56% completions, 3700 yards and 26 TDs, but 28 INTs and a rating of 71.2...so mkae of that what you will I guess. Ironically Couch's rating (73.1) was higher his rookie season than Manning's was.

I honestly believe that Couch was the best QB the Browns have had since they've been back. They just ruined him before they built a team, but we're still waiting on that 15 years later. IMO if you brought in rookie Tim Couch at the beginning of this year he would have actually had a shot to be good.

People can blame Johnny all they want for the debacle yesterday but the entire team bears responsibility for it including the coaches. Shanahan changed quite a bit of the offense and I do not understand why. I think if he would have let Johnny play with the same offense that Hoyer had for the majority of the season we would have looked a little better. I also would like to know what the hell happened to ou OL. They certainly did not give JM much time to get rid of the ball even if he was going to throw an incomplete pass or interception. Maybe Johnny is a crappy QB but I am going to wait a few games before I make the complete judgment. With the be performance of the OL and DL, I think there might be a split locker room and if that is the case Pettine and the other coaches better get it fixed and fast.

I rarely have seen a guy appreciated more after they played, versus when they did, like I have with Couch. Deservedly so.

Doesn't really matter this year anymore, they have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and they aren't going to pay Hoyer silly money. What they have to be careful of is whether FAs (all sides of the ball) will be turned off in the offseason by going to, or staying with, a team with a completely dysfunctional offense (no QB, rookie RBs with fumvle issues, Gordon loafing, Mack hurt) and whether they need to spend more draft picks on QBs. YYEEEEEE-HHHAAAHHHHH!!!!

i think it's obvious why the offense was changed quite a bit. it's pretty clear manziel doesn't grasp the offense. there were several cases where he had all day to throw, but showed zero willingness to deliver the ball from the pocket. and the few times he actually did, he was far from accurate.

This is true, all his defenders saying "he had no time to throw"...well, that was true on some of the plays...but it was for Hoyer too.

That's my favorite part. Hoyer and Money Badger have the same receivers and are playing behind the same OL. Yet, my Facebook feed was full of people blaming the poor OL play and stonehand receivers for Manziel's miserable failure, yet the prior few weeks, everything was Hoyer's fault.

I'm still dumfounded that they drafted the little goofball.

They really should stop drafting QBs, Couch I think was a true victim of horrible OL play. However...Quinn, Weeden, and now Manziel will all be miserable failures because they plum suck.

Of course...Chuck Booms led the way this morning, not only deflecting the way he played yesterday, but somehow saying that he would have won the Indianapolis game "because the defense played better". Uh, yeah, OK :slappy:

I think it should be a rule of thumb for the Browns, draft a QB that doesn't come from a school surrounding their signal caller with elite talent and at least one dominant WR.

Also, it appears the midget shit-bird has been ruled the starter next week (no surprise) I'm picking up Carolina's defense for my championship team. They might get me 20points alone on sacks.

I kinda view David Carr in a similar way. If he hadn't spent 90% of his dropbacks literally running for his life/getting destroyed by unblocked DLs/having less than 2 seconds to throw, I think he would have been better than what we saw in Houston. By the time Houston was any good, Carr was a 25 year old with the body of a 50 year old.

I think the most telling comments came from reporters who finally put out the news that Johnny Fuckin' Football had not "worked" to get ready.
Best comment came from one of the ESPN talking heads who stated that Johnny wants to be a "brand," something not inherently connected to NFL football. In short, he's already proven that a showman can get drafted, make a wad of money and play enough to say he was there.
