Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Good news is we won't be high enough in the draft to have a QB come into play without mortaging the farm. I know Farmer isn't dumb enough to give away picks for Mariotta or Crabby Patty, so I"m not too worried about it.
I still want a top flight 3 tech Dline, another playmaker on offense, Oline depth and another inside backer.
You haven't figured it out... Farmer doesn't matter... Tennessee Jerra is running the show... we're screwed

I have a feeling after Johnny has a stretch so bad these next two games it'll make Hoyer look like Brady - Jerrah errrr Haslam will concede to Farmer.

Gilbert was clearly his pick and while he started rough, has obviously improved throughout the season.
You have a point but I'm not entirely convinced Stephen jones didn't inject his dad with mind control serum and look at how long it took Jerra to get to this point ....not sayin Tennessee Jerra won't wise up sooner...just don't expect it ... We'll have another year of Jony and the pips before TJ goes all elder Shanahan

Winston will slip due to all the issues and very poor performance compared to last year (24 TD / 17 Int will give anyone on the fence a lot to question). And just wait for that Wonderlic and personal interviews... question is, how far does he slip?
Don't want him, but this is the Front Office that'd pull that trigger without even conducting an interview... maybe even trade up a few spots with both 1st picks

For better or worse the Browns are going to be tied to manziel for another season. Cleveland is likely to have a pick bordering on the top 10 with the cluster fuck that is the AFC and the NFC south sending a 7 win at best team to the playoffs. Add to that the fact that most of the teams in front of Cleveland will take qb or ot, and they could get a good impact player.

Didn't get a chance to comment on watching this train wreck yesterday, but here goes....

A. You could have backed up a freaking Snickers truck to the stadium yesterday and it wouldn't have made any damn difference. He's gonna get that every....single....week.

B. The picture of Adam "used to be known always known as Pac-Man" Jones doing the Money Badger finger rub was quite ironic for a guy who made it rain at strip clubs regularly.

C. The Money Badger had a total QBR of a 1. A ONE.
D. His start yesterday made Jerry Jones look like a genius. Could you see this guy trying to push Romo for playing time? :slappy:

E. Don't get it twisted. That start yesterday served a two-fold purpose:
  • Shuts the Hoyer haters up for at least one day
  • Shows that Johnny Jam-Boogie isn't ready for the big time
  • Shows that Pettine is willing to give the finger to the folks in Cleveland. "F**k you fans, f** you all."
F. Terrell Davis on NFL Network gave him an F-. Eric Davis said, "Mike Pettine's decision to put him in is one of the worst coaching decisions of the last decade."

G. This....is the QB of the future for this franchise:

I agree sort of, but he has Carolina and Baltimore, both of whom are battling for the playoffs, and both on the road...if he looks just as bad in those 2 games, and he very well might...I can't see them not bringing in someone next year to at least push him, which either means a) another draft pick, or b) another journeyman like Hoyer. Either way, this franchise is stuck right where it has been unless there is marked improvement, which seems highly unlikely in 2 weeks.

And I don't blame Pettine one bit. He started Hoyer until the fan noise became unbearable, I'm sure he also heard chirping from Shanny and Haslam.

This is why Hoyer has been the starter throughout the season, he knew what Johnny was in practice and was able to see it first hand everyday.
I'd have zero issue with him going back to Hoyer. Personally I feel Hoyer never should have been pulled. Sure, he was regressing a fair bit, but tossing in a rookie
while the team still had aspirations of a playoff birth wasn't fair to Manziel either.

Me thinks Hoyer will be resigned. He knows Johnny certainly didn't earn the position over him.

The most frustrating thing is that people keep pointing to lack of stability as the problem. It's not. It's lack or talent and football smarts. The reason there is no stability is that they keep drafting/signing players that lack one or both of those things. The teams that have stability at QB and head coach are the teams that have good ones. Shit players get shitcanned in this league, as they should, and the Browns will be looking for QBs again before long because they signed a journeyman and drafted a shithead.

It's not like it's just a matter of picking any old player and sticking with him long enough. Who was the last quarterback worth a damn who sucked in his first year but eventually came good? You either have it or you don't.

The Browns don't have any stability issues at LT. It's not because they drafted a guy who wasn't good and just waited long enough. They drafted a guy with talent and a brain who started kicking ass when he got here. They won't solve the problem at QB until they finally make a draft pick for that position in the same mold.

Peyton Manning? I mean I get what you're saying, but I think QB is a different animal...yes, they have to have talent and smarts, of course...but if you try and run 5 offenses in 5 years, and have to adapt 5 different playcall languages, and 5 different philosophies as to where the ball should go when and in what situations...well no one is going to play up to their potential. So I think it's both. If you get married and divorced in less than 6 months 5 separate times, did you just pick 5 wrong women, or did you not give it enough of a chance? Could be either one.

Peyton Manning set all kinds of rookie records in his first year. He wasn't great by his standards, but he was pretty good, showing signs of greatness, and was the standard the Browns were holding themselves to when they drafted Tim Couch the very next offseason.
