Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

Part of me says Gordon will not go that route because a) he likes being a part of a competitive team that has at least won some games. B) I'm sure he's heard about Blackmon now and is thinking "holy shit, they're not kidding".

Then again I could be wrong. 80% of professional athletes are total dumbasses.

I hesitate to give Lombardi any credit, but it was a great move trading a previous regime's potential first round bust before he lost all trade value whatsoever.

Lombardi is in a catch 22. Anything good he does people will give credit to Banner and anything dumb that gets done will be attributed to him. It sounds like bringing in Hoyer was mostly him so he should get credit for that and he was correct about Weeden being a waste of a draft pick (of course most of us were saying that on draft day). As long as he was wrong about Gordon I'll be happy.

Great win. Nothing else to say about it. Except...

That said, now that we have a bye and 2 weeks, they need to cut Weeden...now. He did everything but curl up in a ball, suck his thumb, and cry for mommy when he went in there. He had no desire to play, he had no desire to be on the field, and at this point, we need someone who at least WANTS to be out there, even if they aren't very good. Weeden is finished as a QB. Here, everywhere.

I agree. Things aren't going to get better for Weeden. From watching Hoyer and Campbell play it is obvious that Weeden just isn't cut out to be a professional athlete. There has to be someone (or a couple someones) sitting on a practice squad somewhere that would be a better backup for Campbell. Get some new blood in the locker room and give them as many practice reps as you can over the next couple weeks.

My biggest issue with the Browns coaching right now is that they've done a shitty job teaching QB's when and how to slide. Hoyer ends up with a blow out knee because he waited too long to get down and Campbell gets a rib injury from not sliding. 90% of the people in the stands could slide better than the one time he did try. If they do hold onto Weeden they need to get him to work with Campbell the baseball slide over the next couple weeks.

While I agree regarding your statements about Weeden I have to disagree with regard to your statement about Hoyer not knowing out to slide. He played baseball at St. Ignatius so he should know how to slide.. What happened with regard to his injury was the fact that his cleats got stuck in the ground when he went into his "slide". I will admit that he probably should have gotten out of bounds a little bit earlier. Campbell got his rib injury because he had 330 pounds fall on him when the football was underneath him.

one of the smartest things that the coaching staff did was run the end around when the Weeden came into the game. I thought he was going to drop back and pass which made me extremely nervous. Just get rid of the guy. I love what Horton is finally doing with his defense.

Hoyer slid too late. Campbell was the one that doesn't know how.

With two first rounders next year and the Browns still winning, they'll be in a tough spot....

Stick with Hoyer & Campbell and use the first rounders to upgrade at WR, maybe S? Or trade both to get up high and get a top QB, a Manziel type?

Skrine has really impressed me this year, biggest surprise of the year to me.

I agree with regard to the WR. I would like for them to find someone in the Gordon mold. Big and fast but with good hands. I do not think that we need a prime time safety so I think that could wait until later rounds or free agency. We need some good depth at ILB, OL, and we certainly need a RB. Jackson and Robertson have played almost every snap this year on defense and that cannot continue so depth at ILB must be addressed but that can wait until after we make our debut in the Super Bowl early next year:biggrin2: At this point, I do not think we have to trade our first two draft picks to get a QB. Maybe in the second or third round we can get a sleeper.

I'd be fine with waiting until the 3rd round to pick up our RB, always good value there and I think too many teams get burned on RB's early. In Turner's offense we can get by without an elite RB.

Also wouldn't hurt to upgrade at OG.

With Hoyer and Campbell playing well I think it leaves them open to draft a QB in the second or third round and try to develop him over the next year or two. There is a pretty long list of good QB's that could be in the draft this year and they aren't going to have a shot at the top 2 or 3 unless they pull an RG3 type trade up. I'd rather find 2 starters with those first round picks to fill some of the remaining holes that they have. If they fall in love with a QB that falls to their first round pick I don't have a problem pulling the trigger.

Halfway through the season the Browns needs chart has changes a little

Still big need:
QB
RB
OL

Nice to have:
#2 WR
Bad ass ILB
#2 CB
#2 TE

In the draft I would love for them to find an ILB that could be their Ray Lewis. That would be kind of like picking Mingo last year even though they already had 2 starting OLBs. It would be safe to pick a high WR to cover their ass against Gordon getting popped or Little developing the dropsies again. I'm willing to roll with the current DB depth since Skrine has been impressive so far this year and they have McFadden and Slaughter developing for the future. At least Cameron has shown to be one of the best young TE's in the NFL so that position of need went away except for depth. Gray might be able to develop into an athletic threat out of the backfield or at TE.
