Shurmur doesn't come right out and say it, but you don't bring up the owner's influence in the decision (as the first name mentioned) unless you are looking to plausibly deny your involvement in such blatant stupidity. I mean, once Shurmur is fired after this year, he's going to be asked questions about this pick. I'm sure he'll be putting the blame on Lerner during interviews. All of these guys need to start planning for their next jobs.

Too bad we're still going to be stuck with Lerner - who is quickly becoming the worst owner in the NFL.

This part essentially comes out and says it:

This move was driven from the top. Sources said owner Randy Lerner expressed frustration about the team?s quarterback situation and President Mike Holmgren made it his personal mission in this draft to decide on McCoy?s replacement.

It's always great when you have a meddling owner, may he never enjoy a painless piss again.

I hope you're being facetious, because those numbers aren't similar in any sense of the word. Weeden had almost 20 points on DA in completion percentage and 35 points on him in rating, not to mention the TD/INT ratio. Any reason you chose DA to compare against Weeden?

Throw Timmuh up there. It's sort of scary.

lol. espn brilliance again. randy lerner has never once meddled in the draft or free agency. the browns gm said point blank that weeden was #13 on their draft board.

The article posted earlier by Grossi (yes, I know...but at least he's local) also stated that Holmgren was looking to replace the QB because Lerner was unhappy with McCoy.

Then how do you explain Shurmur's comment?

Randy Lerner has no business being involved in any of these football decisions. This guy currently owns two miserably failing sports franchises.

Is this the case?

Doesn't matter. By the time a quarterback is Weeden's age, there is no such thing as potential anymore. It's not simply how much time he has left; it's that he probably won't improve much. He's either a Super Bowl winning QB now or he'll never be. I'll let you guess which one he is.

after sobering up, all i can say is whatever...its over...im not going to spend 5 pages filtering through the longevity of running backs and shit like that...taking trent richardson is a great fucking pick...if u have to trade a 4th, 5th and 7th round pick for him to move up one spot, then you do it...i dont care if they heard anyone was moving up or not...better to be safe then sorry...im tired of watching this fucking offense every year...i dont care if your whole entire OL is made of top 10 picks...you still have to have someone run the ball and throw it to a wide receiver or TE...and with the browns needs you take the best person available...it was richardson no question

now with the Weed pick....i obviously think we reached hard for him...after thinking about if we would of stood pat, took a OL, and then hopefully had him drop to us at #37, then we would of been great....but from all accounts, Heckert was set on taking Weed so he would of probably tried to trade back into the 1st round or early 2nd to get him, spending more future or current picks...so if thats the case then fine, lets reach for him at #22...his age does bother me...i dont think a guy who is 29, just entering the league will amount to a super bowl...but colt mccoy isnt either so here we are...one thing u cant deny is Weed's arm strength and stats over his years playing...he will have more success then colt throwing in cleveland's weather, which is very important

now we still need a WR...hill, randle, jefferies are available still...we now need to take one of those 3 in the 2nd round...and hopefully its Hill or Randle...after taking a WR we still have 7 more picks to take a LB, CB, DE, OT, OG, WR, DT, C, S, and another WR

Richardson was the right pick. You do not draft a Right Tackle at #4 when you have an elite talent at a production position sitting there, even if it means jettisoning a few later picks you're likely to cut later on, anyway.

...and that's what [censored]es me off about 22 even more. They are sitting in position to have an elite RB, and have two potential pro bowl blockers expected to go much higher fall right into their laps. They're gift wrapped for them. You not only address the hole at RB, you improve his chances for success by drafting a blocker to open holes for him. It's a homerun. A no-brainer. Can't [censored] this up. BRANDON [censored]ing WEEDEN. What. The. [censored]. 28 year QB about to get thrown into the breach without any receivers. Want a little salt in the wound? Sure thing. The two other teams in the region quickly snatch up the two OL.

I just can't stand it anymore. It's like this franchise purposely [censored]es us off and laughs as we tantrum. I hope they move to LA.

This deserves a GPA.

Which means nothing. Just because he is unhappy doesn't mean that he then dictated "draft Weeden at #22". And that also covers what Shurmur said.

Look at it this way. I believe everyone here believes that Holmgren is a man with a fairly large ego. A man with a fairly large ego will not stay in a place where the owner meddles to the level that some here are wanting to believe.

If on Monday morning Holmgren resigns, then (and only then) would I give any credence to the notion that Lerner meddled.

I've heard it said he'd likely be a top-15 pick if he was 22-23...which means jack and shit because he's going to be 29 early in the season.

Well, what's the average QB lifespan in the NFL since we're talking about that with Richardson.

I mean, if we post the bust list for 1st Round QB's.... it's long and distinguished (like my johnson).

So, where I am with this is, the kid is probably a bust. Just like most QB's. Better prospect regardless of age than Tannehill. Better prospect/Arm than McCoy. Doesn't have Barry Stokes protecting his blindside and has an elite Tailback prospect behind him.

So, what I'm seeing here is... the problem is. "IF" he's good, we're only gonna get 6 or 7 years out of him instead of 13 or 14.

When was the last QB we had for 10 years in Cleveland, nevermind 7?

And we used a 22 on him. Not like we just popped the number 1 overall on the guy and left Luck on the board.

ok so now that we have to deal with Weeden for the next 2 years, whether anyone here likes it or not (which is all of us)...i think we need a good weed nickname for him...some strong chronic...purple kush? northern lights? G-13? bubble gum?...or maybe The Chronic is good enough....either way guys this has to get decided before the season

Trainwreck.
