Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I sincerely hope they go 0-16. If they can't compete (and they can't), they might as well suck to the fullest. Embrace it, losers.

You guys should all get tattoos if it happens!

Don't know why, but a day later, still kind of miffed certain NFL players (and certain Brown players) are dancing after scoring while the team is still behind on the scoreboard.

If the Browns were ahead, I could care less.

They were busting him on talk radio this morning for that too.

He is quickly becoming my least favorite Brown but he has a little way to go to catch Marecic who could not hold onto a football if it was handed to him. Maybe they should try him at LB.

It reminded me of the famous Roy Williams "The score doesn't matter at all" incident (Little, that is). As for Marecic, maybe he can block, but he should never, ever go out in the flat or in a pattern, ever again, for any reason.

Is it just me or does a 2nd CB seem like a pretty big need right now? I'm glad to see the offense look better even if it was just against the Bungles.
That is where I would spend a little free-agent money next season to sign a quality CB. Those guys are pretty young back there and need some help. I have no idea what position I would draft first. I think I would definitely try to move down and recover my second round pick that I gave up for Josh Gordon. We also need some OL depth.

This team is rail thin and has no depth anywhere. The secondary is a disaster without Haden, the OL would be toast if even one guy got hurt. The Bengals game showed all of that in spades. Even if all our picks pan out, we are a year or two away from competing because guys get hurt, and we don't have anyone else to put in anywhere.

Do you really think this franchise will ever compete? Unless you were talking about competing for a Top-5 pick, because that's a given.

Yeah, pretty much the case... which is why there are so many rookies. Why keep guys who you know suck? (With the exception of the D-Line, if we can get big Phil back at any point, we'll be in good shape there... The Hughes/Winn picks look not too bad at the moment, and even with the "coulda got Hughes later" argument, based on projection you could have flipped them and no one flinches)

Anyway... drafting woulda coulda's aside....

I hate to start giving Weeden any credit, and he's got a long way to go to be properly evaluated, but, something did strike me, when he has time, he actually does look down the field (unlike Quinn) to make plays, when he does throw it down the field he has the arm strength to get it there, and is accurate when his footwork is good (unlike McCoy) and when he does have to check down he throws it with touch accurately to the safety valve (unlike Anderson). He moved reasonable will in the pocket to buy some time on occasion and has pretty good overall awareness of what is going on. In a way my favorite play was the little incomplete shot put as he got hit to Richardson when he disappeared over in the flat that went incomplete. At least he knew he was there and realized there was enough room to just flip it out there. Richardson was great I thought and the threat of him catching the ball out of the backfield is going to help everything out a lot... you can't lose track of him, or he will gash you.

Having said that... they are outmanned on the outside on both sides of the ball... worse with Haden out...

This Bills game could theoretically be a shootout*

(Having said that it will be an exercise in futility between 2 bad teams)

I think they COULD, which is of course different than WILL  It depends on Haslem. I don't think they ever would have under Lerner. If they make a few more solid draft choices and get a coach that isn't a clueless douchekabob, yes, I think they can compete. People forget that everyone thought the 49ers were lost forever just 3 or 4 years ago, and now they look like the SB favorite. I think if the new ownership gets the right things going, they can compete. If not, they will continue to tilt the suckometer.

That to me was the big result form the first 2 games. The scout that was hopelessly trashing the Browns last week was right: Weeden can't do shit under pressure. The Bengals, for whatever reason, didn't really put any on, and Weeden could stand and fire. It's obvious he can make the throws if he has time (as opposed to, say, McCoy, where it wasn't clear he could if there was no defense on the field). But if I'm Buffalo next week, I rush 7, blitz every down, whatever, until Weeden proves he can do something with the pocket collapsing, because I still don't think he can.

It was partly because the browns were running screens and throwing to the RB's the whole game and it was very effective in slowing down the pass rush...

Crap, did I just give them credit? Again?

Oh wait, except when Marecic was the safety valve, I think he's on meth or something...

There, I feel better.

I think next year will finally be their year....
I agree especially within our conference. The Squealers and Ratbirds are both getting older and really haven't impressed me from what I have seen of them. not going to compete for the SB next year but I think the conference title might be in reach.

You you

I agree that we are in thin on the outside but I think it is important to remember that these guys are young and some of them will improve with more playing time. I just think depth is our greatest weakness right now.
