Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Oh, and LeBron will be remembered the same way as Modell is.

I disagree, after the Olympics and him showing at least some semblance of maturity and backbone in the playoffs, a lot of people are already getting over LeBron. Not forgetting, mind you, but the strongest of the bile is starting to go away. With Modell, it never did, and never will, for the vast majority of everyone here. LeBron will always be the guy who did what he did, but he will also be a lot of other things. Modell will always be the guy who did what he did...period.

I don't expect any Browns fans to be happy that their team left but I have to be missing something here...

The stadium was [Mark May] and getting worse every season with no luxury boxes. The owner says plainly that he needs a new stadium or he's moving his team. The people had plenty of time and decided to do jack [Mark May]. He moves the team. Fans mourn...then give another owner exactly what Modell begged for. I don't get why the voters in Cleveland aren't to blame here. Does anyone think Art wanted to leave?

I can see why so many people think that, but it's really not how it went down.

The city asked him to be patient. They committed to Jacobs field and Gund arena, 2 franchises struggling to sell out their respective stadiums. Not to mention, Richfield wasn't in Cleveland and was not drawing any people to the city.

Model would have gotten his stadium. But in the meantime, he was selling out every Cleveland Browns game in Municipal. If fan attendance sucked it would have been one thing...but the stadium could have waited....assuming Model wasn't in debt up to his eyeballs. The tax-payers just foot the bill on multiple projects, Modell owed a [Mark May]load on other ventures, saw $ signs in Baltimore with a publically funded stadium in short order, and bailed on Cleveland.

That is the frustration.

He saw Jacobs Field and went ape-[Mark May] in jealousy. He just needed to give the city a few more years. Instead he took his ball and went home, and destroyed a city's love for their Cleveland Browns. A team he bought for $2,000,000 that brought so much joy. It's unthinkable all he paid was $2M for a professional NFL franchise.

This is not a post designed to draw any ire - but this stuff is so interesting to me. I read about the old municipal stadium and there are rumors it was build to attract the 1932 Olympics (eventually hosted by LA).
I love old stadiums and their history and the Old Municipal stadium had such a unique look to it. Unlike anything I've ever seen. Were the seats better in the "Cresent/half moon" area? Seems like the wind would whip around there pretty good.

Some interested videos too on the last game. Bob Costas does a good job hosting the interviews.

+ didn't he run Paul Brown outta town?
Actually, some of the Browns players went to Modell and asked to get rid of Paul Brown. Many of them along with some Browns fans had thought that the game had passed Brown by. Blanton Collier was an excellent replacement and led the Browns to the 1964 championship.

Yep. Unfortunately, it's just going to make Cleveland look even worse.

Who cares? We get kicked while we're down no matter what by the national media anyway. It's not like they would give Cleveland credit for not booing.

And this is really Goodell's fault. He should know better.
