Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

I just think there are three teams ahead of the Browns that need QBs.. Buffalo, Cinci, Arizona. I have a hard time believing he'll drop out of the top five for that reason alone.

I think Newton at #1 could be a Jamarcus Russell level mistake, but hey, what do I know?

I forgot to mention Peterson somehow in my list of players too. I have no idea how I forgot him, because he's #1 on my list. I do have a list, I get pretty into the draft. If he's there, he's a no-brainer.

If Gabbert goes in the top 5, I think it may be more likely Miller would slip to 6 than Peterson or Green. From what I've heard Miller fits better in a 3-4 than a 4-3 and LB is likely a less attractive trade up target than a QB.

You're probably right. But that still leaves either Peterson or Green, so it's still going to be a great pick for the Browns.

I wouldn't be surprised if Miller went to Denver, I hear they really like him. But they really need d-line help. I think they have a good defense overall, just not on the d-line.

Ahhhh, draft day. For some reason this year I really don't care who they pick. They almost CAN'T screw this up. Alot of impact type players at positions of need. As long as they don't pick a QB, how could they screw this up?

Of course that is the kiss of death meaning they will find a way to screw it up. But it is unlikely.

And now for my predictions for this draft class:

I like Jones over Green (Jones just reminds me of TO from his San Fran days, the perfect west coast WR) Green will be a good WR, but I think Jones will be special in a west coast offense.

I think Quinn will be the best DE in this class.

Fairley will be a monumental bust, best case he is a smaller Shaun Rogers. But I doubt he will care as much as Shaun did.

All of these QBs suck. Dalton will probably be the best one at the end of the day, and that will be just an average NFL QB/game manager type QB.

The Browns will make a move, I like their thinking of trading up with the Vikings at 12 to get a 2nd top 12 player is genius. My dream would be to pick Quinn at #6 and then see Jones drop to #12 and snag him there.

But I also see them dropping a few spots. I would say as long as they stay in the Top 10/12 they can still get the guy they wanted at #6 whoever that is (or at least a guy they could have draft at #6 and still be 'worth it')

Sword of Damocles....

Might want to grab a big back at some point with "the curse" hanging over Hillis' head. :!

Where have you seen that rumor? What is that likely to cost?

I saw something about it on the National Football Post. The cost was something like a 2 this year and next year's #1. I think a more likely scenario would be MIN moving up to Cleveland's spot to get Gabbert.

I read another report regarding NE possibly trading up for Cleveland's pick if Von Miller is available.

I'm also fairly excited for the draft, although it lost a lot of its luster this off-season when Goodell announced some of the new rule changes.

The new rule that they will no longer keep score to make sure all participants maintain a high self-esteem and no one gets their feelings hurt seemed a bit aggressive.

I do like the rule that each team is treated to an ice cream sundae as long as they "try hard and have fun".

To expand on the Minnesota rumor... Cleveland supposedly really likes 2 guys in this draft. (no idea who though) If both are available at #6 they have two choices, trade down 1-2 spots or more, OR pick their #1 guy and IF their #2 guy is there at #12 they will trade this year's 2nd rounder and next year's 1st round pick to move up and grab their #2 guy.

From Peter King:

The hot team: Cleveland.
Now the Browns could sit where they are in the first four rounds -- at overall picks 6, 37, 70 and 102 -- but I'd be very surprised. I'm told GM Tom Heckert has an itchy trigger finger this morning, and is looking forward to dealing out of number six if the Browns' preferred pick is not there. If Gabbert's there, as Mayock and Gosselin project he will be, there's a chance the Browns could get a good extra pick (from Tennessee, moving up two spots) or more (from a QB-needy team down in the round). Cleveland could be the team that thinks it could turn its first-round pick into a good second-rounder in this draft, a first-rounder next year, and something else.
Remember a couple of things about Cleveland: Heckert learned from working under Trader Andy Reid, and he's not scared of losing out on a player by moving a few spots. Club president Mike Holmgren, from observing Bill Walsh and Ron Wolf and from his own beliefs, loves to wheel and deal too. Heckert and Holmgren strongly trust their gut about players. Say they want a pass-rusher and franchise receiver badly. They're the types who's say, "We'd rather have Titus Young and Brooks Reed this year, and an extra one next year, than Robert Quinn or Julio Jones this year.'' The Browns could end up sitting tight, but if their guy or guys aren't there, they'll move.

I think it was Schefter (could've been Mort) who Tweeted today that QBs would go higher than everyone thinks.

Probably wasn't referring to Gabbert, but it can't hurt Cleveland's chances at him being gone.

There are also rumors that if Peterson is available at #6 the Browns might trade with Houston for their #12, #48, and another late round pick.

A lot of things might change within the next 24-48 hours since Nelson denied the owners appeal and the NFL is open for "business".

I hope like hell they wouldn't do that...I think you need to get more for moving down 6 spots than a middle second and a 6th or 7th, plus I think Peterson would be worth taking over that deal.

I'll be pissed if Peterson is there and they trade out...you don't pass on the oportunity to take, arguably, the best player in the draft at #6 if he's there without issues. Him and Haden together at CB would be awesome.
