Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

This doesn't make sense to me. If there's no one available at 6 that you really like, why not try to move down a little, get someone you like about as much as the remaining options at 6 and get an extra pick or two in the process. Personally, the only guys I'm sold on at 6 are Dareus, Peterson and Green, none of whom seem likely to be available.

I don't trust the Browns to trade down responsibly. Usually what happens is the Browns get a pittance such as a late 6th-rounder to move down seven spots, and at least three future Pro Bowlers come off the board before their turn comes up again.

OR

The Browns trade down to stockpile picks, and then treat those picks like scratch-off lottery tickets and use them to grab high-risk guys who played NAIA ball or got bounced from three different schools for disciplinary issues.

The only team that I know of in the past couple years who has drafted down successfully is the one which is coached by Uncle Bill up in New England. I know that we are under a different regime now but I still do not know of any other teams that have drafted down successfully like the Patriots.

Besides the three players mentioned in the above post, I think that Julio Jones is worth the six selection. I know people on the board have talked about the fact that he might have the dropsies but I have also read that his problem might be he tries to turn up field before having control of the ball... easily correctable.

I think the reason that it has been so quiet is because of the lack of a CBA and the fact that no players have changed teams so you really can't get an indication on which team might have already fulfilled some of their needs through free agency making the draft that much more unpredictable.

I actually agree with this, I don't think the deals they made in 2009 were all that terrible, and heck they even got the Alex Mack pick right...they just screwed the pooch in the second round.

Of course, there is also this...

I dunno, I think Holmgren and Heckert have a better resume' than the dipshits we've had running the draft show before. And since we don't have to worry about being the Cleveland Jets anymore...

heres how i hope tomorrow ends up

browns keep their 6th pick and land AJ Green

i will be disappointed if we take Quinn or Von Miller...these guys are both obvious top 10 picks but im not sold on either...i will be happy if we get Green, Julio Jones, Patterson, Dareus or if we trade down no further then picks 10-12...if we move any further then that i think we will have no shot at julio jones or an elite DE/DT prospect...and rumors are atlanta is looking to trade up for a WR...i have faith in whatever heckert plans on doing at this point...so far he has shown he can make good trades and make good decisions in the draft...hopefully that continues tomorrow

My perfect although completely improbable Browns draft would be:

1. Green
2. Heyward
3. Chekwa
4. Casey Matthews
5. Boren
6 and 7. DT or OT or QB

I would also bring in Quinn Pitcock for a tryout since it sounds like he wants to get back into football.

I'd like to see a mid-round RB in here. Darren Evens? (health permitting) Maybe Williams as opposed to Chimdi in the 3rd? I know we need DB, but not having that 2nd RB bothers the hell out of me. And I have incredible doubts Hardesty will be that guy.

I think (yes, I know) we're in a pretty good situation here...

Julio Jones, fine... Petersen, fine... som eother guys, fine too...

However... I do like that Holgren (and no doubt other GM/Pres types around the league) are testing the trade climate within the draft...

There may be some unusual value in trading down due to the labor situation considering a lot of teams have more holes than usual to fill since they haven't done any "aquiring" in free agency.

I think everyone knows there will be football in the fall... but, no one knows what the cost of FA's are going to be.

So, I think teams that feel like they have to only add a piece or two might spend more than usual to get guys... the only problem the Browns have is they might have to set the market... but if someone ahead of them gets a big price for a pick, it might be time to trade down early and often.

The good news is, that D line is a priority... plenty out there... and we could just flat use a pile of BPA's and really, we have a new coach and all that nifty shit, so, hey... no one's expecting playoffs out of the Browns... get more guys.

I would absolutely love to trade down, especially given the (IMO) most likely situation. I'm assuming the draft goes something like this: Newton to the Panthers, Dareus/Miller to Broncos, Miller/Dareus to Bills, Green to Bengals, and Peterson to Cardinals. I really don't like the options we have left to choose from. Even worse, the Raiders don't draft in front of us, so we can't just assume that some guy projected to go in the second round ends up bumping Peterson back to us. I guess we can hope that someone trades up to get Gabbert, but I'm not holding my breath. Give me picks, or give me death.
