Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

A lot of "experts" think the Browns will draft Jones at #6.

All I know is this, if Peterson is still on the board and we take Jones, I might drive into Lake Erie.

If the Browns draft Peterson they might have the best set of corners in the NFL. They have a greater need at WR or DL, but no one should have a problem with Peterson if he is there. I still hope Green falls to them or another team is willing to trade a lot to move up for the Browns pick and then they can get Jones. IMO Jones brings a lot more to the table that he who shall not be named.

That's exactly why I've been beating that drum for the last couple months. I've convinced myself that the road to respectability will require the team to become the best (or at least top 5) in the league at something. With the supposed depth at other positions in this draft, getting Peterson at CB would be a good place to start.

In my mind, the main needs are basically 1a and 1b:
1a: WR, we NEED a playmaker for Colt to throw to. If, somehow/someway, Green falls to #6, I think it's a nobrainer that you pick him. and that includes if Peterson is there. I don't like Jones at #6. I think the similarities between him and a certain WR we once drafted #3 are too large to ignore. If they were to trade down a few spots and grab him in the 10-15 range, fine...but not #6.
1b: DE, we need a passrusher in the worst way, but none of the ends this year overly impress me.

Now, if Peterson were to fall to #6, the only person I don't take him over is Green...but I don't see Green getting past the Bungles. If both Green and Peterson are sitting there (which I think is a bout a 2% chance), I'd prefer Green, but wouldn't be upset with Peterson at all.

Agree about defensive end. Robert Quinn intrigues me but we absolutely cannot waste a pick on such a risky situation. Other franchises can, but the Browns cannot afford an epic flop.

And I have never been too high on that defensive end from Clemson.

I think Quinn will be a fine pro, same w/ Bowers (if healthy)...I just think there will be better options, including trading down if Green/Peterson are off the board.

But I will say, if they're both off the board, I wouldn't be too upset with Quinn...I'd just prefer trading down and maybe snagging Jones or somebody of that ilk.

Count me as a contrarian,
Colt McCoy needs at least one weapon at WR.
I think I heard that Homgren drafted 12 WRs in 3 years at Seattle. He loves his weapons in the West coast O!
Green is 1a and will be the field stretching wideout for as long as the Browns can afford him.
Jones is 1b onthe Browns board, if Green is not there at #6, Holmgren will lobby hard for Jones, and in spite of all the nightmares of the dropster, Jones will be a nightmare fordefensive backs in the league for years to come.

one thing we can hope is that cam newton is still around at #6 and some dumbass team wants to trade up to get him

1. Trading down isn't an option at this point. This team needs playmakers (no, that's not Newton Thank God) and they need them now.

2. Newton won't get past Buffalo and/or Cincinnati. :slappy:

I'm beginning to warm up to the idea of Julio Jones.

I think he could be a playmaker for a long time. He's big, physical, and is an all around receiver. I've heard about the hands, but he's not the same type of player as Braylon. I've also heard that he's a hard worker and good teammate so he hopefully wouldn't be a drama queen.

He also likes to block.

Cleveland Browns are talking with teams about trading draft positions

Published: Wednesday, April 27, 2011, 11:32 AM Updated: Wednesday, April 27, 2011, 12:59 PM
By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have always been receptive to trading down from the No. 6 pick and recently have amped up efforts to do so.
"We are talking to people about trading. I am not going into any more detail than that," Browns President Mike Holmgren told The Plain Dealer.
Houston reportedly is trying to move up from No. 11 to take Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller or LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson. Miller might be unreachable for the Texans, but Peterson could still be on the board at No. 5 (Arizona).
The Browns' chances of trading down would be enhanced if Peterson or Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert were still available when their turn came up.
Holmgren said he has not set a limit as to how far he would be willing to move down.
"But the deal has to be right," he said. "It has to make absolute sense to us, otherwise we take the player. I know we need other things, but we just take the player."

Even though most of the stuff you hear around this time is just noise, but the bolded part is encouraging re: Peterson. I think the gap is large enough between him and other DBs... I would hope it would take an overwhelming offer to get the Browns out of that spot if Peterson is on the board.

BTW, this has to be the quietest pre-draft period I can remember.

This doesn't make sense to me. If there's no one available at 6 that you really like, why not try to move down a little, get someone you like about as much as the remaining options at 6 and get an extra pick or two in the process. Personally, the only guys I'm sold on at 6 are Dareus, Peterson and Green, none of whom seem likely to be available.
