Does anyone else think that Shurmer is getting in too far over his head. First year head coach who is running the offense and calling plays sounds like too much. Should we start a VBet until how long they bring it is until they bring in an OC?

Is it just me or does it seem like Holmgren is pretty much the Head Coach with Shurmer as the OC? Only difference is Shurmer gets to make the game day decisions. I don't like the situation, but I could see it working since Shurmer only needs to worry about the offense. He'll probably just let Juron run with the D.

What concerns me the most is that Holmgren seems to base his hires on coordinators and coaches he knows he'll have great influence over - or sometimes even direct "control" of.

Again, that's (to me) at least what it appears to be.

That is definitely what it looks like, but I'm also willing to accept the idea of him wanting everyone to be on the same page.

If this is going to be a case of Holmgren going as far as setting the game day active roster, like has happened in the past (Savage), then I'm not digging this situation at all. If this is a case of Holmgren putting guys in place that do things the way he wants them done, and that makes him better as a manager and talent evaluator, then I'm all for it.

Holmgren clearly wants to return to coaching - I'm sure his wife wouldn't be to fond.

IMHO its almost like he's living vicariously as a coach through his young hires.
If I was a coach and my President wanted to set my game-day roster I'd be looking for a job elsewhere.

Unless this is his (Holmgrens) idea of bringing along a new coach and not overwhelming him. Which I guess can't be too bad of a thing.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

its all a big shit storm, but at this point if i am going along for the ride then i guess i would rather take it with holmgren then some of the previous GM's/President's...so basically...IN HOLMGREN I TRUST

tom heckert sets the 53 man roster, which is the job of 99% of the GM's in the league.

Some great hires by the Browns, imo.

Whipple coached Big Ben into the player he is today. The new DL coach has been coaching in the league for 20 years, 18 with the 49ers and Seahawks. Billy Davis, the LB coach, has twice been a defensive coordinator.

I seriously doubt that it is like that. Holmgren wouldn't do that.

Shurmur will be good. I think Holmgren will help him to become a great coach, but I don't think Holmgren would hire him to be his puppet. I think Holmgren sees a lot of potential in Shurmur and is going to be there to support him along the way.

It's much better than hiring a bunch of has been coaches who've already proved that they know how to lose.

We are putting together a stable organization with a smart coach that is going to have plenty of people around him to help him but also the freedom to take the team where he wants to take it. I think not having the offensive coordinator will give him that freedom (but he'll know he's got help all around him if/when he needs it).

For those that look at the 26th ranked offense of the Rams last year, first look at who their head coach is, and second look at the offensive line and receivers. I don't think that you can judge him based on that. But look at how he's done with the quarterbacks he's been with. And an example that I love to point out is that Sean Payton ran a pretty shitty O as offensive coordinator for the Giants and lost his play calling duties to Jim Fassel for God's sake. He would have been fired had he not gone to the Cowboys as the QB coach. A super bowl later........

I think the Browns are finally moving in the right direction. This draft is going to be huge.

Everyone's on the same page and we have the talent in the front office and on the sidelines. Now it's time to put that talent to use and find some talent to put on the field.

So. Thoughts on the draft skimmed my mind this morning.

I'll make it sweet.

1st) A.J. Green

Take our 2nd round and (1) of our 6th rounders, bundle.

2nd) Big Cam

....after that. I drink until I cry tears of joy.

i LOVED your draft till you got to the 2nd round
