Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

With the Bills naming Dave Wannstedt as their new linebackers coach on Friday morning, "Dick Jauron is now believed the frontrunner for the Browns' vacant defensive coordinator position."
Jauron, the former head coach of both the Bills and Bears, is believed to be competing with former Cardinals DC Billy Davis for the job in Cleveland, but is vastly more experienced and worked for Browns president Mike Holmgren in Green Bay. Although he is also a candidate for the Eagles' DC vacancy, don't be surprised is he is hired by the Browns as early as today.

The Browns OC position is not a desirable position because Schurmer wants to call the plays, but I would think the DC would be a good position to have since Schurmer is an offensive guy and will probably let the DC handle everything on that side of the ball. If tTe Stache is taking a LB job I don't think he was a serious candidate for the Browns DC job.

Cleveland Browns will hire Dick Jauron as defensive coordinator, source says

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns are expected to hire former Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach Dick Jauron, 60, as their defensive coordinator soon, a league source told The Plain Dealer.
One of the other leading candidates for the Browns job, Dave Wannstedt, accepted a job today with the Buffalo Bills to be their assistant head coach/linebackers coach, according to reports.
Jauron formerly was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears. He is the first coordinator hired by new head coach Pat Shurmur.
The Browns had also interviewed former Cardinals defensive coordinator Billy Davis for the position and still might offer him a job on the staff.
Jauron was also a candidate for the Eagles defensive coordinator position.
Jauron was a defensive coordinator with Jacksonville from 1995-98 before being named head coach of the Bears from 1999-2003.
He became defensive coordinator of the Lions in 2004 and was named interim head coach for the last five games of the 2005 season.
He was named Bills head coach in 2006 and held the job through 2009.
His record as a head coach is 60-82.
Jauron was a safety with the Lions and Bengals from 1973-80 and finished with 25 career interceptions.

now maybe we could con Zorn into coming over and we should be set

I am sure glad that they got Jauron rather than a guy who was on Palmer's staff (Davis) I would also say that Jauron is more familiar with the 4-3 which I would like them to go to. There are so many old guys in the front 7 it might be easier to get quality players for a 4-3.

4-3, 3-4, i want whatever defense gives us the best chance to win now...it would be really bad if we were to take a step back and win 2-4 games next year...and it is possible considering we are changing our offense and defensive philosophies...but i hope i am wrong with this

I don't know if it would be much of a con. Zorn is currently the QB coach for the Ravens and he is a MH guy. Even OC for a team where he wouldn't be calling the plays from the beginning seems like it would be a step up from QB coach.

A source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News that the Browns have not asked the Eagles for permission to speak with OL coach Juan Castillo.
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday that Castillo was under consideration for the Browns' offensive coordinator job. Castillo -- regarded as one of the top line coaches in football -- makes a lot of sense for the Browns given his history with new coach Pat Shurmur. Look for the Browns to ask for permission sometime in the coming days.

As a true Browns fan, watching Pittspuke win is just salt in the wound.
Ding me, I don't care.

Fuck Steelers fans, the whole lot of 'em. Especially all the one's that just happen to have shown up the past 2-3 years in Ohio.

You know what I'm talking about. The fat asshole in the Big Ben jersey who has the nerve to say "Cleveland sucks" in a random bar during the off-season, just to be cool. Goes on and on about how he, his family and friends etc etc are diehard "fans". Yet can't name me 5 players on Defense or Offense. Nor who the starting QB was Pre-Rapist era. Success breeds bandwagon. I can't remember seeing more of that type in my life. Maybe Yankee "fans" or Cowboys "fans". Fuck them too while we're at it.

Fuck you Hines Ward. Toothless-burger. That dirty bitch Harrison. The scUMmer POS Woodley (You're still 0-4, you'll always be 0-4) : the entire city of Pittsburgh simply because of the smell and cavernous mountain trolls that you call residents.

That is all. Back to your regularly programmed Browns discussion.

CLEVELAND -- Browns center Alex Mack has been named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, the league announced today. Mack replaces New York Jets center Nick Mangold, who was injured during Sunday's AFC Championship Game loss to the Steelers.
"I'm very excited to be able to go to Hawaii," Mack said in a statement from the Browns. "It's unfortunate that Nick had to get injured for me to go, but I'm looking forward to representing the Browns. It has been a lifelong dream for me and from here on, it's working to make many more. I'm excited to be going and I can't wait to play in this game."
Mack, the 21st pick in the 2009 draft, hasn't missed a snap in his two seasons. He'll be joined in Hawaii by teammate Joe Thomas, who was voted a starter at tackle.
The game is Sunday at 7 p.m.
For the first time since the 1981 Pro Bowl, the Browns will have at least two offensive linemen at the annual all-star game. That year, guard Joe DeLamielleure, DeLeone and tackle Doug Dieken all represented the Browns.
In 2010, Mack was part of an offensive line that paved the way for five individual 100-yard rushing performances and a running game that averaged 4.0 yards per rush attempt.
He is one of six Browns centers to earn Pro Bowl honors and the first since Tom DeLeone in 1981.
Mack expressed his disappointment when he wasn't originally named to the Pro Bowl roster this season.

I don't even understandw hy they play the Pro bowl. Half the guys don't even play because of injury or.... and I have no idea what the TV ratings might be for this show. I know it doesn't have my attention.

ya exactly...all anyone cares about is having the tag of being a pro bowler...when discussions come up about how good someone was vs another person, being named to the pro bowl always is brought up...who cares about playing in it

There was an interesting article on OBR late last week by a guy who talked about who the Browns should get rid of and who they should go after. I no longer can find the story:( However, a couple of the things that I remember was that he would get rid of almost all of the Jets that were brought in under Mangini in addition to getting rid of St. Clair. There were other guys but I cannot think of them. Maybe Eric Wright but not sure. The guy also said that he would draft Von Miller as his first pick because there will be a number of free-agent WRs this year. He said he would draft Von Miller because the Browns should run a hybrid 4-3. I also remember that he had D. Jackson as our MLB and I don't like that idea at all. Think he's too small and not quick enough for the NFL plus he wants quite a bit of money as I recall. Sorry but that's all I remember.

I've said it for a while now.

Von Miller was productive in a 4-3. Hes was productive in a 3-4.

I'd love to have him at either the WILL or SAM.

edit; Yet as much as I'd love to have him, I think the front 4 (next to WR) still take priority.
