I've heard from a beat writer that Bill Cowher's name surfaces from time to time. Not WCO schooled but he's won a Super Bowl. With the recent passing of his wife, he may want to get back in the game.

I think that if he returns to coaching that he will stay out of the same division as Pittsburgh.

I really hope Mangini makes it. As far as running a draft goes, he sucks. Other than the state of the Browns passing game, I'm well pleased with him as a coach.

The Browns team he took over was bankrupt as far as talent. How bad was it, guys like Abe Elam and Kenyon Coleman were big upgrades? I think he should he put Colt out there and see if we have anything.

The Browns will definitely finish below .500, but for Mangini I am imagining there will be a huge difference between, say, 7-9 and 5-11 again. If he wins 7 games and gets fired, basically Holmgren is going to have to look at a camera and say someone else could have gotten more than 7 wins out of this team, and with talent level and injuries, I think that's a really hard sell. 5-11 again, however (which would mean 3-6 in the 2nd half), and I bet he is gone for sure.

On another note regarding Mangini remaining as the HC for next year I think here is how it is going to play out. Holmgren will tell Mangini to get rid of his OC and if Mangini refuses it will be bye-bye. If he does get rid of DaDa the possibility of him retaining his job for next year might be okay but I think Mike has the itch to coach again .

Personally, I think Mangini is gone regardless. I have grown to respect the job that he has done, however I think Holmgren wants to coach and has made no effort to squelch those innuendos whatsoever. I agree that if this team goes 7-9 it will be very difficult to justify firing Mangini but I think that is what will happen in the end.

I think some of this may be contingent on the development of McCoy. If he doesn't pan out the Browns will be looking to possibly draft a "franchise" QB next year and I don't see Holmgren leaving the development of this QB to Mangini's staff. If McCoy does have a good year I think Mangini has a better shot at staying put.

All of this is speculation and there is a helluva lot of football yet to be played so who knows? I have enjoyed watching the Browns this year and I hope Mangini gets at least one more year. This team gives a ton of effort and it is evident that Mangini can coach and develop players, especially those diamond in the rough undrafted types like Bernard and Moore.

Who is to know what a certain coach can do for a team? All it comes down to is if the team wins while having a coach.
No problem here with the Brownies having a new coach every year until they start winning.
Besides they have a good start on hiring every coach known to man since the inception of the NFL. I say "go for it".

If I don't completely concur, it's only because the jusry is out, but I certainly see this point. When they hired Holmgren as President, I was fired up all to hell and believed he could turn this franchise around. As coach? Not nearly as thrilled.

I think Mangini deserves another season, though if Holmgren decides to put in his own guy, then I'd be happy to see Gruden. What I don't want to see is a GM/coach. Maybe it's the memories of the Bitch Davis era, but I want to see one guy running the team on the field and another guy dealing drafts, contracts and the front office. Here's to Mrs. Holmgren putting her foot down.

Holmgren looking very wise in acquiring Hillis for Quinn, drafting McCoy and keeping Mangini/Rob Ryan. Coaches always look better when you give them some talent, unless that coach is Wade Phillips.
