more...BEREA, Ohio ? Of all the Browns rookies, Carlton Mitchell might be the one who has gone most unnoticed. That could be about to change. The big and speedy receiver from South Florida, drafted in the sixth round, is being talked up by coach Eric Mangini after a few weeks of good practices.
The fact the Browns likely will be missing Josh Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi in New Orleans on Sunday is a call for somebody to step up. If not now for Mitchell, then when?
Mangini, in fact, volunteered a positive report on Mitchell in the context of a question about rookie guard Shawn Lauvao.
"Carlton, I think he's had two or three really good weeks, and I don't mean just catching the ball," the coach said. "He's showing up every day and doing good things every day. He and I talked the other day and I said any day now he could be getting an opportunity, possibly this week. I'm excited about that, too."

Where the fuck did that come from?
I'm not complaining though. NFBuck is right, Mangini has this team competing their asses off....they don't have the talent to win without a maximum effort on both sides of the ball but given how the Crennel teams would quit at the first sign of POSSIBLE adversity, I'm loving the change so far.

I'd still go back to Wallace if he gets healthy this year so McCoy can go into the offseason with nothing but good things to take from this season. I have no problem with McCoy going into next season as the starting QB after the past 2 games. With how much WR depth there is going to be this draft the Browns need to come out with a true #1 WR. They probably need at least one more body on the oline as well. I'm content with the RB's for now. RB is one of the easier positions for a rookie to come in and contribute so I'd be willing to wait on that for another year with Hillis and the current crew handling the running game next year. The defense needs another playmaker per position group assuming they are able to hold onto the good players they already have.
I have to disagree with you regarding Rob Ryan. Most teams would have to completely redo their rosters for his defense to work like it is working with the Browns plus there are a few more qualified assistants and possibly HC's that might be available next year.NFBuck;1799252; said:One thing I have to say for Eric Mangini, he has one of, if not the, least talented roster in the NFL and he has these guys out there competing week in and week out. Whether that will save him for another year, I don't know, but at least this isn't the soft teams getting blown out on a regular basis that Crennel fielded. I like the defense a lot, well except for Easy-E. I'm ready to eat some crow on the T.J. Ward draft pick. I bitched and moaned about it, but that kid is a football player. Can't ask for much more from a 2nd round pick. I'm still not sold totally on Colt, but the kid clearly cares about winning and has the "take charge" kind of attitude you want under center. We may not have to go QB next year, but he needs some help. They need to find some receivers and probably another back to go with Hillis be it through FA or the draft. I love Rob Ryan but I think he's gonna be a hot HC candidate this offseason, so I'm thinking he may be gone next year.
I didn't think it would be so this year, but this team is actually worth following. It's not pretty by any means, but they have enough spunk to upset some teams the rest of the way. I actually think they can play with, if not necessarily beat, anybody. That's a nice change.
