The way the Browns are signing tight ends and picking up the RB from Denver and then drafting another power RB, it looks like the Browns are building more of a power team than a West Coast offensive team especially with no WRs being drafted.
Not directed at you litlbuck, as I have seen many posts since Holmgren's hiring that held a certain belief, just quoting it cause it is right here.
Which isn't a surprise at all. I know that I mentioned, based upon comments made by Holmgren, that the WCO as many know it wasn't necessarily coming to Cleveland. Also, for those who really watch, elements of the WCO could be seen by the Browns last year.
Holmgren is not an idiot. While he comes from the WCO coaching family tree, he also knows that there are other ways to play offense....to move the ball, win time of possession, etc.. I am sure that he saw elements of the WCO in the Browns "attack" last year and with his knowledge, those elements should be improved upon going forward.
Too many went the easy route when Holmgren was brought on board and simply assumed WCO was coming to Cleveland. Many also assumed that Mangini, after meeting with Holmgren, agreed to the WCO so as to keep his job. What everyone should have assumed is that 2 men who know the game of football met and discussed football, football philosophies including offensive philosophies.
And that is what has me cautiously optimistic about the Browns.
I loved the power running game that the Browns had last year without a true power back. Mangini obviously values the ability to run the ball as indicated by his disposition in using high draft picks on the oline. Getting a good oline that can block for the run game coupled with Holmgren's knowledge of the WCO to help in that area that was lacking last year has the makings of something that can keep me watching games on Sunday's rather than using the game as white noise for my nap.
