Actually I totally understood the Hardesty move. Approaching the 3rd round you see Gerhart, Tate & Hardesty on the board and you feel safe that you should get one of them. Then all of the sudden Gerhart & Tate get snapped up and you look at your board and you see Hardesty as the only remaining RB that you would even draft (actually there was a huge drop off til the next RB came off the board). Hardesty was considered the next best RB after Tate, and some people liked him better than Tate. So I have no problem there. Now, I could have an issue on what they traded to get him, but in the end, they were just 5th rounders.

Regarding Colt McCoy. The beauty of getting him in the middle of round 3 is that you don't have that much invested in him. SO why would it prevent you from grabbing a QB next year in the draft? I am sure Holmgren/Mangini will be able to evaluate McCoy during fall camp and the season as the scout QB. If you like what you see, then maybe it downgrades where you would pick a QB next year. If you don't like what you see, there is no reason you can't pick a Mallet or Luck (just say no to Locker)

Speaking of next year's draft and on a totally different note... the reason you didn't need to pick a Dez Bryant type WR this year is because of the 1st round WRs in next years draft. With Green, Jones, Floyd & Baldwin, :yow1:those are 4 WRs that I would consider BETTER than Dez Bryant.

I think you're absolutely right that Hardesty was the best RB left, and it's clear that the trade they made was the best trade available. Having said that, I'm still not convinced that RB was the pick to make there and that it was worth taking the deal to get him. This wasn't a particularly good class for backs, and I think some equally good options would be available next year. Of course, until the on-field performance improves, I'm likely to look askance at all Browns draft day decisions.

I guess with McCoy I'm not sure if you can evaluate his future after just one season on the team. We've been through several QBs who showed an early flash or a good season only to flame out, and the NFL has a number of guys who didn't look like the future of their franchise for three or more years after being drafted. I'm pretty sure that the McCoy pick means that Cleveland doesn't pick a QB first day next year, and probably not second. Even then, I'm not sure who I'd want to see them pick, so I have my fingers crossed that the "college starts and wins" rule of thumb holds true with Colt. If he turns out to be the answer, then he's a great face and leader of the team for the next decade and change.

Great point about the WRs next year. The upside of the McCoy pick may be that the Browns go for a WR first round rather than a QB, and there's some excellent options, even without Posey going out.

Really, I liked this draft for the most part for Cleveland. It wasn't perhaps the "A+++ Great draft! Would draft again!!" home run that many had hoped for, though that was always unrealistic. A bit of luck on draft day is required, and you don't always get that. For every situation of McCoy falling far enough, you have another where a team grabs the guy you want/need two picks before yours. This is something to build upon, and looking at it with a few days of clarity, should turn out to be one of the better drafts since expansion. Build on this for the next two drafts, plus trade for and sign players at key positions intelligently, and you have something.

It is very obvious you dont get it.

Next years WRs are gonna be fresh to def. Any of those top 4 guys would be pretty awesome in the Browns offense. Little surprised the Browns didnt try to add a real TE this year when there were a lot of good options falling. Next years class should be decent, not as many receiving guys as this year.

:slappy:

Word pile, they be supermacadocious stone silt stompin'. Next year, if Beezer get's some uppity on his moves, we can get skeets and baz to man up, it'll be go time down on the pad with Foonkaki and snickyboop at the helm. FOOGER

I saw that article while I was at work today and I pretended that 1). The Browns aren't my favorite team and 2). It's still April Fools Day.

Hopefully no Broncos fans are laughing at this because I think they are on the verge of signing that quarterback, based on the same film.

that is ridiculous, by that thinking no one should ever draft one of our guys.

Tell that to everyone that bitched about Jets rejects, even though many of those rejects were productive members of the team last season.

I think I did last year.

I think the sour taste comes from the time when the Browns made a habit of taking rejects from Tha U. It's one thing to take rejects from NFL teams that are better than yours. It's quite another to take them from a college team.
