I personally don't care about McCoy or the newest incarnation of Checkdown Jesus...WE NEED SECONDARY HELP. LOTS OF IT. If that means Barry, or trading down, or whatever, so be it...we scored plenty of points at the end of the year when we ran the ball effectively...alas, we also gave up a ton to teams like Kansas fucking City. We need secondary help, secondary help, and secondary help, then maybe some lineman. A project QB is just not all that critical right now. Hell, with Jake the Overthrow and Seneca the Wild(cat), it looks like they have who they want in the short term...a guy in the middle rounds that can sit for a couple of years (like Kolb did) is perfect right now.

I think the biggest thing that strikes me against McCoy is his lack of guts. Biggest stage of college football he gets injured. He may or may not have been exagerating the circumstance, I've heard his arm wasn't nearly as bad as he made it out to be and him sitting the NC game had everything to do with his NFL career and Draft status if he came up short, however we'll never know if thats true.

Lack of guts is the last thing I think of when it comes to Colt McCoy. Maybe you have better information that I have, but my impression of the NC game was that he badly wanted back in and was overruled.

More worrisome for me would be the boneheaded end to the Big 12 Championship Game. Game and clock management skills are something that can be learned though. In fact, they're something that have to be learned by and QB entering the NFL because the clock rules are different than in college.

Clausen probably had more talented skill players, but he didn't have the O-line that Texas had. I think the biggest thing that strikes me against McCoy is his lack of guts. I heard the same thing about Ted Ginn's NCG injury. Pure, unadulterated, horse shit.

Scott Wright has posted a new mock draft today and has the Browns taking Berry in the first and McCoy in the second. Wright is kinda all over the place in his evaluations but I have frequented his draft site for a couple years now and he does a decent job on his mock drafts.

Draft Countdown - 2010 NFL Mock Draft

Alot better than Grossi's mock he had in the Plain Dealer where he had Berry being picked by Seattle and the Browns then picking Odrick at #7

A pro day is a controlled setting, check out Jamarcus Russell and his greatest pro day Mayock had ever seen. Its set up for the guy to look good. As I posted earlier Colt and Bradford didnt play tougher defenses than Clausen. The NCAA website I posted has all the stats regarding passing defenses, Notre Dame played a tougher schedule.

So what happens when that controlled setting that's set up for the guy to look good, doesn't?

I take it that you might be pretty mad if the Browns would take Jared Odrick or Trent Williams in the first round and do not select a DB with their first choice:)

Odrick I would, because he's a good player but clearly not in the league of the top 2. I'm actually never (OK rarely, but almost never) opposed to improving the offensive line, so Williams wouldn't be a problem with me...I actually liked the Mack pick last year when it happened. I would be pissed off at a QB or WR at the spot.

You slow, bro?
Two drops by someone named Robby Parris on long balls. The only thing they had a problem with was his footwork, pace and they even stated it was because he just had toe surgery.

Sounds like Clausen's the slow one, bro.

Feel free to take this in slowly...

Yet while most of Clausen's passes were on the mark, the timing of his throws seemed off at times. His pass placement also was nothing out of the ordinary.
Pass catchers were intermittently extending vertically or reaching backwards to make the grab. On a number of occasions Clausen overshot his downfield targets.

...
Clausen, coming off a toe injury, displayed only average footwork and quickness rolling outside the pocket then throwing on the move. The overall tempo and pace of the workout seemed to be lacking

So to recap: Bradford and McCoy, good workouts; Clausen, mediocre workout. This is a bad top-10 draft pick if anyone decides to go that way.

for a guy with supposedly very good mechanics, he sure winds the ball up a lot. He makes Sam Bradford look like Peyton Manning from a mechanics standpoint...

The one thing I love about Bradford is his realese... Quick, from the ear and high. But yeah I'll agree, his windup his pretty excessive and maybe its me but he has a knack for throwing behind his reciever in that video.

Somebody is gonna get killed on a seam route.

Pretty interesting blog post, with a lot of interesting little tidbits from Holmgren. Worth a read.

Excellent read Bucks21. It certainly sounds from that Q&A with the season-ticket holders that the Browns might be drafting more than one WR in this draft and they will be quick. Also, enjoyed his retort to the fan who called him about Delhomme.
