I am assuming that Holmgren will be in charge at the draft this year?
That really depends on the GM. If they hire Heckert from the Eagles in order to get him, they will have to give him complete control over the 53 man roster because he needs a higher position to come to Cleveland. The last thing I read was the possibility of Heckert being the GM and the guy from Seattle, Lewis, being the Personnel man.

On a side note regarding Mangini, I wonder how much he had to swallow in order to stay with Cleveland. Of course, there are only 32 head coaching positions available and you never know when you're going to get another chance. Maybe that persuaded Mangini to swallow some of his pride.

Zorn to teach Quinn the west coast, and a new OC with WC experience. IMO

I think Quinn spent his first two years running a West Coast based offense for Ty Willingham, although the offense was unbelieveably awful those first two years, they actually got by on Defense and Special Teams that first year.

Right now I've got issues with Quinn's durability though. He played through some injuries at the college level, but I never remember him missing a game. Now, the last two years he's had season ending injuries. For a guy that lives in the gym, he must have brittle bone disease or something.

I don't think Quinn is the answer, but I want them to focus on building the rest of the team this off season. If this time next year they look at this team and say the QB is holding the team back they can worry about making a move on a QB. Noted if one of the potential stud QB's from this years draft falls into the 3rd round I would take him.

Great decision by Holmgren. It's worth it to bring Mangini back. Holmgren has more than one year here to make things right, we're in the right direction, and he knows that Mangini is doing his thing right now. Mangini is worth giving it another year. Mangini doesn't have to be in control of the final decisions on players as long as he and Holmgren both know what kind of player Mangini wants in order to be successful. If they both are on the same wavelength on the make up and the direction of this team, Mangini is a good coach, a good leader, and is just good at what he does, Holmgren is smart. Mangini got this team to play really good ball with a really below average roster... Mangini is making the roster better, he made a below average team a lot better than it really was no matter what you say. He used Cribbs like no one ever used him. He made Harrison get better and gave him a chance to get on the field. He has a direction for the team to go.

there is a rumor that holmgren could hire Heckert as VP of operations and Lewis as GM, with one focusing more on the pro personnel side and the other focusing on scouting and the draft. I doubt that ultimately happens, but it's out there, and it's a way to promote both to get them out of their current positions.

Looking forward too the draft. 11 picks could really inject this team with some young, necessary talent.

I'm concerned about the Harrison and Cribbs situation though. He reportedly packed up his locker. We have to keep this man in our organization - its that simple. 1.4m I find to be tad low, toss him a few more $$ plus maybe an incentive and I think he stays. Although I can't imagine what that incentive would have to be.

Harrison also needs to be taken care of. I'm not saying give him a contract similar to a DA or Lewis style after 07; but enough to keep him satisfied until we can discover what he's like as a featured back against some legit defenses next year.

My biggest questions are in the draft. Suh or Berry would be awesome, but look more and more like a longshot. So where does that leave us? Our secondary needs work, replacing Elam and sliding McDonald to nickel-back are priorities IMO. So if both are gone, does that mean we go Haden? If so, then perhaps Coleman and McClain next? That would help to address 2 levels of this defense's needs.

When/what round do we start considering offensive talent? 3rd? 4th? I agree about taking a late round QB and seeing what we can do. But, the homer in me (again) would love to take a serious shot at picking up Troy.
I realize i'm a broken record on that, but he has far more experience than ANY QB in this draft in regards to the NFL and just as much potential as late round material. Only issue, and correct me if I'm wrong - he is in fact a RFA?

Suh and Berry are pipe dreams at this point. Suh's guarenteed top-3 and Berry's definate top-5. Picking at 7, I think Haden and McClain are good guys to look at right now. Of course, following workouts, there will be risers and fallers. Just don't go after a workout warrior.

I wouldn't worry that much about Cribbs. I doubt he can afford to sit out and not play for 3 years. They'll eventually work something out.

They also have other people that need to be taking care of almost just as quickly as Cribbs such as Roth, who could start at OLB next year, and Evan Moore who is the only TE who can catch passes. He needs to put on some weight and he could be an every down player next year IMO

They have to be very careful about how much money they give these guys with a potential lockout being forecast for 2011.

i don't know if roth falls into the RFA category. he was in the same draft class as braylon, so technically, he should be a RFA, but the fact that he was cut may totally negate that.

also, there is no way that there will be a lockout in 2011. nfl is the best brand going, and they won't jeopardize their cash cow for the sake of dan snyder and jerry jones. if anything, there will be a team or two moving, which will alleviate the perceived revenue sharing issues.

I think the upcoming NFL labor battle has more to do with the owners getting on the same page than the players and the owners doing the same. Certainly there is something there between the owners and players, but guys like Jones and Snyder aren't likely to settle for what some of the smaller owners (Davis and Randy Lerner and Mike Brown in particular) will want....

Should be interesting.

I don't know if I would lump Lerner in with that group. He has never seemed to worry about spending money. Hell he just gave Holmgren a big chunk of money and was ready to be paying 3 head coaches if Holmgren decided that he wanted to bring in his own guy.

Heckert given complete:wink2:control over 53 man roster.

It would not surprise me to see them bring Lewis in from Seattle to help with personnel decisions especially since PC will be coming to Seattle.

I wonder if Major Wright would be there in the second round for the Browns to take or am I a little off with that projection.
