greer signed with NO for 4 years, $23 million, no word on guarenteed money.

that's a lot of scratch for a guy that may end up at nickle back.

Cleveland Browns sign tight end Robert Royal

Bills free agent tight end Robert Royal told the Plain Dealer Wednesday night that he had signed a contract with the Browns earlier in the afternoon and overnighted it to the team.

"Everything should be official by (Thursday)," Royal said. "I'm definitely excited to be a member of the Cleveland Browns and start a new chapter in my life."

Royal, 30, is an eight-year pro and three-year veteran of the Bills. At 6-4, 255, he's known more for his blocking, but is also a good receiver. He caught 33 passes for 351 yards with one touchdown last season. Overall, he caught 81 passes with seven TDs with the Bills.

Originally a 5th-round pick of the Redskins out of Louisiana State in 2002, Royal signed as a free agent with the Bills in 2006 and was cut Feb. 26 in a salary-cap move.

The Browns have expressed interest in Detroit free-agent linebacker Paris Lenon, but no visit has been scheduled. "The Browns are definitely on his radar scope," said agent Jonathan Persch. Lenon (6-2, 235), who led the Lions in tackles in 2008, would most likely play inside next to D'Qwell Jackson.

Lenon's actually not too bad. It'd be a good pickup for the Browns IMO.

He's a solid corner. I think he'd be Cleveland's #2.

But yeah, that's a big contract for him. Corners are getting rich(er) this year. Foxworth got a large contract, Denver signed someone for a large sum, Greer got a big contract, etc.

I think the Browns should've went after Lito Sheppard. 5th rounder and a conditional '10 pick? I'd make that trade all day.

But the Cowboys' release of the troublesome wide receiver expands the potential trade market for Braylon Edwards. Problem is the Cowboys traded their first- and third-round picks last year to Detroit for receiver Roy Williams. In a separate deal recently, they traded cornerback Anthony Henry, who would look good again in a Browns uniform, to Detroit for quarterback Jon Kitna.

The Cowboys do own a second-round pick and a high pick in the third round. That's the one they got from Phil Savage last year in the Browns' trade-up in the fourth round to take tight end Martin Rucker.

I'm not too great with value, but I can say pretty confidently that if Braylon hadn't dropped 4204 passes last year that a first would probably be required for him. Not sure anymore. 2nd and 3rd might be enough to get him.

That being said, I don't think the Browns should trade him unless they know that they can get a WR elsewhere who is a reliable receiver. If they could pick up Marvin Harrison or Joey Galloway and draft a young guy, it might not be a bad trade for the Browns.

Let's say that this trade did go through that would give the Browns 2 second-round draft choices and a very early third (Browns pick that they traded). They could easily bundle the two second-round draft choices and slide into the first round and I would think be able to pick up a very nice WR.

I guess that I am getting really tired of Edwards after last season and all of the drops. I thought that Winslow was a better football player but just could not keep his mouth closed but some of that was due to Savage.

Actually, if that trade was made the Browns would have 3 second-round picks(also got one for Winslow). At least watching the draft would be a lot more exciting than last year.

Or pick Crabtree at 5 who definitly has the talent of a top 5 pick, and get a defensive player like English from NIU late in the 1st round.

You guys remember how Braylon played in that Monday night game last year? He is going to play like that all this year because its his contract year and he wants to get paid. Let him play out this year, slap the franchise tag on him and trade him next year.

I really can't think of one guy who was franchised and got traded. If he plays well this season, I would keep him. If he has the dropsies again, I would get rid of him for about almost anything.
