Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

Cleveland Browns football NFL News - cleveland.com
Herron actually was signed by the New York Jets on Jan. 25 and cut one month later. He never played for the Jets, but was on their offseason roster for a month. The Browns make no mention of this Jets' connection in their press release.

So, technically, Herron is the fifth ex-Jets player signed by the Browns in free agency.

Herron, 5-11 and 225 pounds, has rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns in 23 career games.

Found it interesting that he had some ties to the new Browns regime. Also, being 5-11 and weighing 225 pounds he could be a good short yardage back.
Corey Ivy is the newest addition.

Apparently the Ravens really wanted new CBs this offseason. They released both McAlister and Rolle, and let Corey Ivy go to a rival.

I do not see this anywhere. Would you please provide links when posting this type of information. Thanks.

IVY PICKS THE BROWNS
Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2009, 9:00 p.m. EDT

Cornerback Corey Ivy has decided to stay in the division.

The former Ravens defender has agreed to terms with the Browns.
Per a league source, it?s a one-year deal.

The nine-year veteran spent three years in Baltimore. He appeared in every game last season, starting one. In 2007, he started 13 of 16 games.

Ivy previously played for the Rams, Buccaneers, and Patriots. He appeared in all 19 regular-season and postseason games of Tampa Bay?s Super Bowl championship season of 2002.

huge upgrade over Terry Cousins in the nickel package. Ivy plays hard and is physical. It'd be even nicer if we find an upgrade at CB, and Ivy can come in on dime situations and let McDonald play nickel. Doesn't look like that is the gameplan at this point....

Report says Shaun Rogers is missing from Cleveland Browns off-season workouts
by Mary Kay Cabot / Plain Dealer Reporter
Thursday March 19, 2009, 6:09 PM

CLEVELAND -- Disgruntled Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers has boycotted the start of the Browns off-season workouts, which began on Monday, ESPN.com reported today.

Rogers asked the Browns to release him from his six-year, $42 million contract recently after he felt he was snubbed twice by Browns new coach Eric Mangini.

Rogers was also miffed that his first contact from the new regime was a mandate to show up for the off-season program at a prescribed weight, a source said. Rogers felt that because he played hurt the second half of last season and was in compliance with his weight requirement, such a demand was unnecessary.

Rogers' agent, Kennard McGuire, declined to comment.

Rogers earned a $6 million option bonus on March 6, instead of being released. But it appears the rift between the Pro Bowl performer and his new coach continues. Although the program is voluntary, Mangini, who has reportedly tried to reach out to Rogers, has made it clear he wants everyone participating.

trade him for a first round pick, clear some salary, and scout out players with a winning attitude. I've come to the realizization that this is at best a 7 win team next year, so if Rogers wants to walk, adios. Stockpile as many early picks as possible, and just rebuild.

It sucks b/c we had a solid nucleus of talent, but this thing has turned around real quick for better or worse. I can't emphasize enough how much I wish Mangini had taken the previous roster and just coached them up and instilled a new attitude. Since he wants to blow this team up and take pressure off of himself and Kokinos, we might as well fcae the realization that they're planning on giving next year away.

Just get the cancer off of the team if they don't expect to make a run at the playoffs...

Fortunately or unfortunately, I do not that they are going to trade him or they would have not paid that $6 mil bonus in early March. It is unfortunate because I was getting a little bit of hope with some of their free-agent pickups and away Baltimore and the Bungles were losing players and Pittsburgh really has not done anything to improve themselves and have lost McFadden.

I thought we were upgrading ourselves on offense but now with Stallworth in trouble it looks like we will have to find another WR. I felt we were growing up on that side of the ball with the latest OL signings but it looks like we have taken a couple steps back.

I guess I would wait on Rogers before moving him to see if things can be worked out. There is always time to make a deal for a guy like that... I think.
