Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

There's no question that Cribbs deserves more money, the question is how much. Hester got a ridiculous contract and the Browns shouldn't follow in their footsteps. I love the guy, but he has three years left on his contract... That's the problem....once you go down that path everyone wants to renegotiate. No question that is what the Browns are afraid of.

devin hester is chicago's #1 wr. cribbs isn't even a #2 wr on a team totally lacking wr talent. Cribbs is certainly worse than hester. furthermore, just because chicago was stupid in the contract they gave hester doesn't mean the browns should be equally retarded.

I'm curious how many reps Hester would be getting at WR if he didn't make so much money. I bet he wouldn't be the #1.

Cribbs deserves to get paid. I usually don't side with the players in these situations - but I do in this one. He's underpaid ridiculously considering his value on the team, and he's a fan favorite. Keep the guy around.

his value on this team is predicated on the fact that the team stinks. chris gardoki was cleveland's mvp one year, should he have gotten $6 million a year? no.

cribbs and his agent are using a BASE SALARY of $3.2 million as a starting point. after signing bonuses, escalators, and incentives, they are looking for Hester money, which is ridiculous.

the bottom line is that cribbs screwed himself over by signing a 6 year deal for chicken scratch because he wanted to cash in early and protect himself from injury. He has 3 years left on his deal, and will be 27 before he plays another snap. giving him a lucrative extension is dumb, period.

I'm not sure what Cribbs is worth, but as a fan I'd much rather see the Browns overpay him by 10% than underpay by 10% and watch him leave the team.

Maybe it's because I'm a Buckeye fan, but the only person that comes to mind when I think of a great kickoff/punt returner but not #1 receiver is Ginn Jr. Ginn Jr. makes a lot more than $1.4.

I agree that Cribbs deserves to get paid, but you dont give him anywhere near Hester money though. It would put him in the same type of situation. For the money the Browns would be paying him they also would almost have to play him as thier number one WR too. I say give him around 3 million a year with a 5 million signing bonus and performance incentives. That would be more than fair I would think.

Cribbs has established himself as one of the greatest returners of all time, maybe the best ever. And he's young. His value is high on any team.

And I don't think any returner deserves Hester money. I'm not saying that at all.

He can't leave, he still has 3 years remaining on his existing contract. He can choose to sit out but he wont be getting paid while doing so.

Ginn is getting alot more because he was the #7 overall pick and he was being paid to be the teams top WR because of that...JMHO of course.

cribbs will be 27 this offseason. that's not young by any stretch, especially for a returner, a position with a shelf life like a rb. and, it seems like cribbs is looking for hester money.

Thought he was younger.

But still, he's not old.

When his current contract is up he'll be 30, which is old for what he does. Both sides are going to need to compromise here. I'm not sure why the Browns would say what they offered is as high as they are going to go.

Overpaying generally bugs me... but in this case, I think he deserves whatever he can get... even Hester money ...because I feel he is more important to us... than Hester is to Chicago...

EVERY team in the NFL would love to have this weapon...

and playing the position(s) he does... he can't last 6 more years...
so he needs to get it now...

I also think all the league free agents will be watching to see what Cleveland does... If they mistreat Cribbs (arguably their most important weapon)...it'll cost them more than Cribbs... paying Cribbs should also be viewed as a marketing expense

From what I understand, most NFL teams will not be signing guys this year to big-time contracts because of the possibility of a lockout in 2011.

I really have no idea what you would call a fair contract for Cribbs because there are not many guys in the NFL who play on special teams plus play a little bit as a RB/WR or whatever position he plays. This is just not a good way for Joshua or his agent to start out with Holmgren. I mean couldn't they wait for a little bit.

Agreed.

Cribbs' doom & gloom Tweets are pretty immature, honestly.

You hit it...both sides need to compromise. I give Cribbs a lot of credit for playing his ass off and having his best year while on a crappy contract when he could have held out and hurt the team. But nevertheless, he hired his original agent and he signed that 6-year contract. On the flip side, the Browns have promised to rework his contract and Mangini has been saying things will get done and that is what Cribbs and his agent have been banking on. What they now have to realize is that there is a new sheriff in town and what Mangini may have promised may not be worth 2 cents come tomorrow.
